According to a Huffington Post article, actress Alyssa Milano was the inspiration for Ariel, the Little Mermaid.

“I didn’t know that when it was going on, but they asked me to host the making of ‘The Little Mermaid’ and it came out there that the drawing and likeness of The Little Mermaid was based on pictures of me from when I was younger, which is so cool,” Milano, who’s currently starring on ABC’s “Mistresses,” revealed during an appearance on “The Wendy Williams Show.”

Though rumors have floated around Hollywood for years, it wasn’t confirmed until recently that animator Glen Keane, who went on to create the Beast and Aladdin, looked at photos of young Milano — as well as several other young girls and Sherri Stoner, who was the live action model — to see what was considered attractive to young women at the time.

For a history recap, Who’s the Boss first aired in 1984 and The Little Mermaid debuted in 1989.

There’s a video in the article.

I read this article this morning. Interesting. She’s very pretty and so is Ariel.

When I read it, I was skeptical at first. I never heard these rumors before.

I remember watching Who’s the Boss and of course, The Little Mermaid is my favorite Disney princess and then I googled the dates for both. The ages match too for the time. In ’89, Milano would have been 17 and Ariel was 16 or 17 in the movie.

There was also a season 5 episode of Charmed where Phoebe (Milano) became a mermaid. 😆
