I am disappointed in Rumpelstiltskin. The show is about hope and true love. His behavior just proved otherwise. The truth is love can never change who we are. If the guy looks like a beast from the outside, he is a beast inside. Feel so sorry for Belle.
Also they move the storyline too fast. So many characters and lacks for focus. Since they have to put so many things in just one episode, they missing a lot of details, for example facial expression and close up.
The orchestration of the finale can’t compare with Skin Deep at all.

For one thing, I think Belle can influence him toward good even if she can’t completely change him. She just hasn’t had time to yet. And what he did hasn’t been explained so even though it was really shady I don’t think it’s a clear-cut “well, that’s it, then! He’s evil!” moment.
But I have to admit, I still feel worried for Belle myself. I wish she loved someone better than him. He doesn’t deserve her yet, and he may never.
May 14, 2012 at 3:36 pm #146699SnickerdoodleParticipantThere are so many ways this can go now…
Belle could be influenced to be bad, Belle could leave again, Bae can still be found, and there is a whole story there… is Bae good or evil, has he been trying to find a way back to his father? Mr. Gold/ Rumpel may still at some point accept true love’s kiss. The writer’s have said in their finale interviews that when Gold finds out what Regina did to Belle… watch out! The theme for this season was hope, and with Rumpel there is hope of redemption because as the BF said to Bae, it is Rumpel’s love for Bae that has kept some part of him human. Now we have Rumpel’s love for Bae and for Belle. What if Henry turns out to be his grandson? Then we add another person he will love and may find that person loves him. Rumpel’s redemption may be more long and drawn out than true love’s kiss, but in real life most resolution to conflict is not fixed with a kiss or even an apology, it is a process, and I guess to me I love his story because in the midst of the fairy tales it reflects the most reality to me. I also think there is a possibility of redemption for him because he still has something human in him like the BF said. Regina on the other hand, I don’t see a path of redemption because she has left a hole in her heart that they have said nothing can fill. Even in the few moments she has looked redeemable there is something that has happened that won’t let her let go of the revenge and winning (the greatest moment of hope for her was when her father talked to her in Ep 2, before she killed him). Young Henry, despite the fact that she “loves” him can easily end up being a pawn now in whatever game is played out next season. And I will have to remind myself it wasn’t her kiss that woke Henry up.May 14, 2012 at 3:41 pm #146700Daniel J. LewisKeymasterHis endgame and true intentions are so foggy right now. He was willing to give up his power when he was talking to August in “The Return.” And personally, I don’t think that has changed. I think he needs the power to look for Baelfire. Now, is magic going to seriously screw with his head? OH YEAH!!! But hopefully, Belle will be able to act his conxcience and snap him out of his wonderlust and keep him grounded. She needs to remind him that the reason why created the curse was so that he could find Baelfire and give up magic altogether. THAT is his engame. To find Baelfire.
And yes, the story moved very fast. But um, here’s the thing…EVERYTHING MOVED FAST!!! π Emma believing, breaking the curse, the dragon. Everything was moving at a rapid pace. So, all of the storylines suffered from that.

But I do have a soft sport for villains and anti-heroes. They tend to be the most interesting characters on the show. That’s why I love Mr. Gold and Regina so much. π

I found his interaction with Prince Charming on the shores (after PC came out of the water from Maleficentβs castle) interesting. He was excited the task was complete, but he also friendly to PC, as he invited him to warm-up at the fire. And earlier, he confessed to PC that he was in love at one point. For Rumple, these were some moments of him letting down his guard and showing his human side, which after many years of being the Dark One, he still had.
May 14, 2012 at 4:34 pm #146715eternalflameParticipantI’m also holding out hope for Mr. Gold. The writers have gone out of their way to show us his vulnerable side for a reason. They want us to see that underneath his powerful facade, he’s just a man. A man with normal needs and desires. Love, family, and yes, even power. We don’t like to admit it to ourselves, but we all lust for power in one form or another. Whether it be in a romantic relationship or at your job. Power dominates us all. Sad, but true.
May 14, 2012 at 6:50 pm #146756malchoreParticipantI was disappionted by a few things in the season finale.
First, Emma went from a staunch non-believer to full-blown believer in quite a hurry. I couldn’t suspend my disbelief for that scene. She has held the Story Book before, but the only difference this time seemed to be that she was OPEN to the POSSIBILITY of Henry eating a apple cursed with magic. Apparently that’s all it took for the Story Book to “magicaly?” infuse Emma with knowledge of FTL?
Second, Malaficient the Dragon was a terrible combatant. Both Prince Charm and Emma handled her fairly easily. π Only Red Dragons can breath fire, but whatever.
Third – Where did Jefferson learn the where-a-bouts of Belle? I presume he must’ve learned all that information from Regina, but it seems odd that she would instruct Jefferson to tell Belle to inform Rumple that Regina had her locked away. I know it’ll have the effect of enraging Mr. Gold, and that’s probably intentional. But it seemed unusually brilliant of Regina. She must’ve known Mr. Gold was up to something that would restore magic to Storybrooke. HOW she knew is beyond me.
I guess what I’m saying is, they burned through a LOT of big major story elements very very fast in only one episode.
