Anastasia fell in love with a man of lowly means. A man she knew her nasty mother would not approve of and would never let her be with, because she wanted her daughters to marry rich. So Anastasia and the man she loved opened a portal to another world in the hope of escaping so they could be together forever.
So they say that NOPE LULZ Ana was never actually Ella’s sister, and then they give another of Ella’s sisters the same story setup they gave Ana. Please writers, stop insulting both your previously established characters and your audience with this nonsense!

They could have just had the flashbacks take place after the ball, after Cinderella had married the prince and after Anastatia had run off with will. We would never have to see Ana, Will, or Wonderland, and the story would still only have required one stepsister (in this case, it would have been Drizella) and it could have been the exact same story about her finding her happy ending after both her sisters had found theirs. Tremaine could have tried to stop her since she expresses resentment over not getting her happy ending ad it would have went the exact same route only with a few minor adjustments.Guys. Seriously. I can write circles around this show.

Then in the scene with the portal, give Lady Tremaine a line referencing how she’s not gonna just stand there and let it happen like last time, and then she yanks Clorinda through the portal and follows after her.
Sure, it’s still unoriginal, and they’d be highlighting that fact that they’re rehashing their own story, but if this is the only storyline they could think up, they could still have done it without retconning Anastasia out of existence.

They definitely could have told Clorinda’s story while keepin Ana’s established, but not exactly the way they wanted to with Ella With Ella already married, they’d need to have Lady Tremaine get the secret from Cinderella some other more creative way, since the glass slippers would no longer be important. Perhaps Ella could still betray her stepsister, but in exchange for information on Thomas’wherabouts from Lady Tremaine, provided all this was happening after the final flashback scene in 1×04.

Agreed–it would have been nice to have an answer to a question we’ve had since S1 and with the plot of LoUS it’s a nice if convenient fit.
