Hope is a fine name for any kid…but here’s my issue. The fact that the writers named the baby Hope is a bit eye-roll inducing. They don’t see that baby as a baby but as a concept. It’s one more attempt to beat us over the head with what they feel is the true message of the show. It’s like if they keep saying in every interview “this show is about hope” and naming this baby that name, maybe their show will actually start to be about that concept. Because OUAT is all about telling not showing.

For example: would you still believe that A and E believe their show is about hope if CS had named the kid literally anything else? Would you still think that the overarching theme of the series, however poorly put together, is about the concept of hope? Yes. Like, we get it. That baby isn’t a person, it’s a giant hammer to beat the audience with one final time.

It is funny that Jennifer is just so sick of people asking her who her favorite character is because they want her to say whatever character they like, so she just throws out the random character that we haven’t seen yet that is meaningless to the story.
