I was very disappointed that Pan was so honest about putting his son in the Pandora’s Box. There was so much potential to this show after the “peter pan is gone forever” episode. The way he taunted his son all along, the way he caused everyone on the island to turn against Rumpelstiltskin during his stay on the island was so heart-breaking and so Pan style that when he suddenly just went and told them “oh he’s in that box” instead of “he fooled you ha ha the box is a fake and he tried to kill Henry so that I don’t take his heart” would have been so much more LIKE him.
The reveal that he’s his father so nonchalantly just blew the whole thing into bits in our faces! I’m sorry, but the characters knowing now that Rumpel was good all along and is PP’s son minimizes the magnitude of just HOW horribly he suffered from his crazy father all these years
The show will not be good now because rumple is not supposed to get sympathy from the characters only from the viewers. He was always the “good guy wearing an evil mask” and suddenly his mask came off.
Now the viewers understand why Rumpel was so afraid of that portal and that magic bean in “desperate souls”, we also understand why he was crying when given that peter pan doll, his father was so horrible, that he didn’t just betray him, but was laughing at him by throwing that doll to him.
I just don’t think it should have ended so sweetly for Rumpel. There was too much potential for a better end and a whole second half of the 3rd season story
Dark one should have stayed a dark one in everyone’s eyes
even though we all would know how good he is inside and how right Belle is about him[adrotate group="5"]December 3, 2013 at 10:41 pm #227881RumplesGirlKeymasterWell, first this isn’t the ending of the first half of the season. 310 and 311 are still to come before the winter break.

Pan thought he WON. He didn’t realize that Regina regretted nothing and couldn’t be held to the tree. Thus, he was gloating. Which is VERY PP. He underestimated that Regina could break free from this Thinking Tree.

They do not know that Rumple has been good all along because HE HASN’T BEEN GOOD ALL ALONG. That is super important. He is complicated and tortured and sad and has done HORRIBLE things. But he has a past; he has trauma. And just like Regina and Hook, it doesn’t excuse the things he has done but it helps them understand him.

I don’t believe that at all. Some characters have always been sympathetic to Rumple–Belle for instance. And Emma has never seen him as a monster, more like a cunning man who knows more than he lets on. And it’s important that our characters understand each other if they are ever going to get the happily ever after as one big family.

Yes we understand but now so do our characters, most imporantly NEAL. Nealfire needs to see his fathers past so that they can begin to get past the hurt and have a future.

Things didn’t end sweetly at all! He just put his father in a box, who isn’t really his father but his grandson and now his father is walking around in his grandfather’s skin! Things are about to become complicated and decidely UNSWEET. There is no way the father/son dynamic of PP and Rumple isn’t about to be revisted and blown up.

only Belle. not even Neal and certainly not Emma was ever sympathetic toward Gold

no. this is the problem, Neal doesn’t know about that bean or about the doll or about ANYTHING that his father suffered. only that his father’s father is evil and that he abandoned him for youth. wait, I don’t even think he knows that much. so it’s not enough after being so mean to him that whole time.

Neal loves his papa. Always has. When Rumple was stabbed by Hook, Neal’s reaction was “PAPA?!” and then proceeded to save him because “he’s blood.” Same with Emma, “you’re Henry’s grandfather. You’re family now. I’m gonna save you.”

But we don’t know how much Rumple will tell Neal off screen. Obviously the reveal of who Rumple’s father was told off screen to Neal. Rumple might tell Neal his whole history with his father off screen as well. You’re making assumptions that nothing is going to be talked about but we don’t know what happens off screen. Or what happens in the future. For all you know, Nealfire and Rumple could have a huge talk in 310.
