From the extended preview it looks like Emma goes down the elevator in the mine shaft and confronts a dragon which could be Maleficent’s “surprising counterpart” in SB. Maybe that is her true form as everyone seems to be in their true forms in SB. We know from the Disney version of Sleeping Beauty that it was at least one of her forms.
That is a possibility. There are stories of dragons who take human form, mostly from China and other Asian countries, along with the phoenix and other mythic creatures. European dragons tend to just be giant lizards with a propensity for hoarding treasure and burning villages.
Or perhaps, if Emma is fighting a dragon, then Regina somehow locked Maleficent in her dragon form. I want to know why Emma would be fighting a dragon in the first place. There must be something that is needed to break the curse or save Henry and the dragon or whatever is guarding it.

Maleficent is not able to help them and so they believe that Henry is going to die. But then Emma goes back and kisses Henry on the forehead and that works even though it is not romantic love. I like the idea that it doesn`t have to just be romantic to break the curse. And then Henry wakes and the dark curse breaks as well as the wave of love spreads over the land bringing light or whatever Mary said in that one clip.

I could be wrong but I think something bigger needs to happen for the dark curse to break. Whilst Emma believing in magic has taken all season and is a big step forward, I don’t think that alone will be enough, it’s too simple. The dark curse is meant to be “the curse to end all curses” and if all it takes to break it is Emma to believe in magic then it would have broken fairly easily if Pinnochio/August had done his job and stuck with Emma growing up. All season, the idea of true love’s kiss breaking curses has been suggested many times so I think that is the way it’s going to be broken but the quesstion is who’s kiss?
With Belle returning in the finale, I’ve been wondering whether the kiss may be between her and Rumpel. Rumpel created the curse and has been a bit anti-love since Belle. I can’t remember his exact line to Snow but it was something like “Love makes us sick, ruins our days, haunts our dreams”. Emma may play a key part in reuniting them, plus one of the ingredients of the curse was the heart of the thing you love most so love must also be the way to break it.
All magic comes with a price!

I agree that it is more than Emma just believing to break the curse. Her believing, I believe, will take her down the path to how to break the curse and to try to break it. I had called that Emma had to find true love but that was refuted in Ep. 21 per the “I call it” forum. I still think if love is to break the curse, it has to do with Emma’s true love (or true love kiss).

She said: “When Prince Charming saw his beloved Snow White in her glass coffin he knew all that was left was to say goodbye. He had to give her one last kiss and when he did true love proved more powerful then any curse. A pulse of pure love shuddered out and engulfed the land waking up Snow White and bringing light to the darkness.” Bringing light to the darkness just seems like the possibility of breaking the dark curse with the kiss. Breaking the dark curse. Though i really do want it to be more complicated then that, but that can be part of it.
May 11, 2012 at 6:44 pm #146355PheeParticipantThe more I think about it, the more I like the idea of Emma being a dragon slayer, just like dear old dad.
Maleficent had the curse for a time, and seemed aware of how terrible it was, so chances are she read the thing before she locked it up in the end of her staff. Perhaps she found a way to alter it so that if it DID end up being used, she’d be offered some protection. If she did that, then you’d think she’d wanna be in dragon form because that’s how she’d be most powerful.
So let’s assume that Emma’s taking that elevator down to where DragonMaleficent is coz she’s gotta slay her with that sword.
If there’s a dragon under Storybrooke somewhere, that’s not gonna go unnoticed, coz dragons tend to be large and noisy. That problem would be avoided if the dragon were under a sleeping curse, (would be some epic karma if Maleficent ended up the victim of a sleeping curse). Didn’t Dr Hopper make some comment to Emma about her having woken a sleeping dragon?
Next question: who would be able to dose up a dragon with a sleeping curse? We saw in Apple Red As Blood that the only way Regina could get her hands on the sleeping curse was with Jefferson’s help to reach back through space and time, so it’s not likely that she could have done anything to Maleficent. And even if she could, as if Maleficent is gonna fall for that trick.
Which leads me to think that there’s only one other who’d have had the knowledge and power to do it: Blue Fairy/Mother Superior. So I’m gonna guess that that elevator goes down under the convent, where Mother Superior has been keeping the sleeping dragon that is Maleficent. And when they’re all at the hospital, she tells Emma she’s gotta go down there to confront the dragon with the sword.
Also, I wonder if that earthquake earlier in the season was caused by a dragon trapped underground beginning to wake from its slumber. Hmmmmm.
I just hope that if the dragon is slayed, it doesn’t kill Maleficent completely, maybe it just makes her mortal, because I’d love to have her around some more in season 2.

Sure, Emma would believe but she’d be a complete wreck, eh?
