So I guess it’s old news that there will be a comic featuring Regina and the Huntsman coming out in the not too distant future, and I’m sure that will have plenty of us at the comic book store soon enough. I was just wondering if there were any comic book fans out there who read other titles.
Titles I Enjoy:
– Fables (highly recommended to fans of OUAT!)
– Excalibur (Classic series, over for years- Alan Davis is my comic book hero)
– Hellboy (Also the novels and short stories which are surprisingly good)
-Chew (Dark comedy, has actually made me laugh out loud on numerous occasions)
– X-Men (well sort of, I’ve lost interest ever since Nightcrawler was out of the picture)There’s also a soft spot in my heart for Kick Ass, Astro City, Scud the Disposable Assassin, and the Flaming Carrot.
(Free comic book day is May 4th! It’s as good a time as any to go support your local comic book store and check out a new title! ^_^)

April 27, 2013 at 2:33 pm #189130obisgirlParticipantomg, when I was younger, I collected Wonder Woman comics and I still have some. they’re not in the best condition but I still have them. they’re also not in order too. I think when I went to the comic book store, I did the ‘judge a book by its cover’ thing and picked out the ones with the best graphics. but oddly enough, I still ended up with three comics in consecutive order so… 😆
I also have a German Star Wars I think original trilogy prequel before the movie prequels comic book. I don’t know German, so it’s sitting in my closet.
ad I did have a Wonder Woman issue 1 originally but again, it wasn’t in the best condition and I accidentally tossed it one day. still kicking myself over that one.
I don’t even read the New 52 but I do skim comic book reviews of Wonder Woman and boy, she is not the same warrior princess anymore. it’s really disappointing to see how the writers have just rewritten her history.
my brother is a LOT more organized than me when it comes to his comics. He has a long white box (it used to sit in his closet but I don’t know where it is now). anyway, he kept them by hero genre I think.
May 4th is also Star Wars Day. May the Fourth be with you 😆 😆

Back when I was in 8th grade, Disney had a series of Marvel comics based on The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin. I love those- even got a fanletter published with my address and got a whole bunch of penpals out of it- that was so fun!
I also have some Fraggle Rock comics.
I’ve heard about Fables- a friend keeps telling me I need to read them, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet.
April 27, 2013 at 6:15 pm #189154thelonebamfParticipantobisgirl- I’m not much of a vintage collector. I didn’t really start building my collection until recently. So to make up for it, I try to buy the nicest versions of the trades. These days a lot of the series I’m in to release really lovely hardback versions, often with bonus concept art etc. They’re gorgeous and look so proud on my shelf. ^_^;; I guess I also like to collect comic book art, especially at conventions. Most of what I have is drawn by various artists that aren’t exactly household names, but I did manage to get Alan Davis to draw me a headshot of Nightcrawler. That baby is framed and in a place of honor in the living room. 😀
It can be really disappointing to see how new writers can take over a title and sort of ruin it while trying to improve it. I don’t think it’s ever intentional but it happens all too often. I think that’s why some of my favorite series (as far as over arching plot goes) are ones that have a single writer, or limited writing staff. “Fables” is a great example of this (have I said “Fables” enough? XD) as is “The Walking Dead”. It really brings more of the “graphic novel” feel to the work when there is one writer carrying out their specific vision. I know that’s not realistic for most titles, but it’s nice when it happens.
-Angie I can empathize. It can seem really difficult to get involved in a series if you pluck an issue from the shelf and have no idea what’s going on. Crossovers etc make it even more difficult. I’m going to back your friend up and say yes, do read “Fables”! I am constantly lending out my copies of the hardbacks. I know that when OUAT started, there was a bit of dissent amongst the “Fables” fans- apparently ABC had been trying to get a TV version of the comic going, but then OUAT happened instead. (Which actually is great, I think. I’m not super sure if “Fables” would have translated as well, and I prefer that OUAT has an original story with Disney as its base, rather than just transcribing a comic into a show.) Still, I think the spirits of the two have a lot in common.

April 27, 2013 at 6:20 pm #189156tiara_roseParticipantSorry.i am not a comic book fan. I prefer Mangas. My favorite is Angel Sanctuary (Angel vs Demons, but evrything a little bit upste down), Love so life (cute), Legend of basara (Battle with a twist of Romeo and Julia)

April 28, 2013 at 3:22 am #189238obisgirlParticipantI just learned about this today but apparently, there was a Disney Cinderella comic detailing what her ever after was like after she married the prince. Seriously. It was not great.
Cinderella stayed at the castle cleaning and doing house work while the Prince went off on prince adventures. so basically, she was doing the same job that she previously had as a maid for her step mother and step sisters..
I did a quick google search and found it here.
April 28, 2013 at 4:36 am #189253thelonebamfParticipanttiara_rose- I read manga too. I’ve been a fan since I was in high school (quite some time ago), and have a tidy collection of stories I enjoy. I’m really sort of weird. My manga collection seems to go back and forth between horror and super cute shoujo series. I’m a fan of Junji Ito’s horror manga, and pretty much anything Osamu Tezuka ever laid his hands on (old school, I know). I’ve also gotten into the Manhwa series “March Story” which has some beautiful art. I’ve heard of Angel Sanctuary, but haven’t read it.
obisgirl- I can’t decide whether that’s hilarious or sad. ^_^;; Didn’t they make two movie sequels? I heard that the second sequel was actually pretty decent.

April 28, 2013 at 1:50 pm #189303obisgirlParticipantJudging from the cover, the comic was LONG before the movie sequels. I haven’t seen the sequels. The only Disney sequel I’ve seen is the Little Mermaid II. It was okay but definitely not my favorite.
April 28, 2013 at 5:48 pm #189335thelonebamfParticipantOh yes- I didn’t meant to imply that the Cinderella sequels and comic were related, I was just wondering if either of the movie sequels had any “trouble in paradise” plot points in them. (I think I remember seeing ads for the first sequel- and it was a bit of “I don’t know how to be a princess” sort of thing. Hazy memory though.)
I saw The Little Mermaid sequel as well and I agree, it was okay. It seemed sort of funny that they just told more or less the same story as the original but in reverse.
Of course anything is better than the Hunchback of Notre Dame sequel. That just… hurt. ~_~

I got you. don’t worry. I would hope because its Disney that the sequel would be uplifting.

That is the best way to describe it.
