I just picked up the GRIMM DVDs and watched some of the episodes for the first time. Has anyone else been watching Grimm and what do they think about it.

    Nonnie,

Last year when Grimm and Once Upon a Time were announced as up-coming shows for Fall 2011, the two shows were often compared to one another because they both appeared to be based on fairy tales.

After having watched the first seasons of both shows, it is clear they are no where near alike!

To me, Grimm is part police procedural drama with Buffy-like supernatural elements thrown in. Season One was mostly “monster-of-the-week” with some long-term story threads interwoven throughout the Season.

And it appears that Season Two (which started this past Monday night already!) may delve deeper into the bigger story and “mythology” of the show.

I enjoy Grimm, but I don’t feel it ranks as “must see TV” like Once Upon a Time!

Well I watched the entire series…. kinda. I kept falling asleep. YOU are right when you said it was mostly MONSTER of the week. My teenage grand-nephew liked the series; he watched while he visited this past weekend. He said he would probably follow the series this fall. ( He and his family follow OUAT on Sundays. ) I think I will pass on Grimm unless that is the only thing on.

I did want to know more about the background story but they are rolling it out way to slow…. so I am loosing interest.

I like Monroe and his girlfriend Rosie
I liked Grimm and crew… but sometimes Grimm is a too lucky to be believed.

The monster of the week was kind of boring, although I kind wish all bad guys would show their ugly face, in real life, as a warning for average citizens.

It is funny. I started watching Grimm thinking that it would be the better of the two “Fairy Tale” shows. For some reason I was turned off to Once Upon a time without even watching an Episode, however, a very good and smart friend of mine urged me and my wife to watch the show and we were immediately hooked. We still watch Grimm and enjoy it but it is a cop show and we enjoyed that. It still has a bit of the monster of the week vibe but is slowly working on its own mythology as well.

I gave Grimm 3 good tries but I just can’t handle another gory cop show (Castle and Criminal Minds fill that for me) and just strange happenings/monsters, (Got Fringe for that.). So I gave up. Very superficially, I think I would have at least kept the show as background noise if it a) didn’t air against Fringe and b) was just a prettier show. The way those monsters look when he sees their “true selves” just makes me want to turn the channel. Even during the advertisements.

I didn’t attach to the characters or actors whereas I got done with the pilot of Once and realized I didn’t recognize a single actor but loved ALL of them and couldn’t wait to watch them do more.
