I was listening to our Initial Reactions and Jeremy made a really good point: the Dark Ones who came back from the Underworld…are they alive? Did the show just break the “dead is dead” rule fully? Or at they shades of the former living Dark Ones? Or is that the Underworld isn’t actually a place where souls of the dead go?

I think they are in an in-between state between life and death, but a price will have to be paid for all of these Dark Ones to truly remain alive. spoilers show Dark Hook and Nimue threatening to kill people, and Nimue apparently marks people. So what I think is happening is that Nimue plans to exchange their lives for their own. Just like when Rumple was resurrected.
What matt said. I’d say for them to truly be alive, they have to swap up the life of someone else to keep the balances. Just like when Neal resurrected Rumpel. So I guess this is an established mode of Dark One resurrection. One life for another. I wonder why no one had to die when Anastasia died…like twice.

Which is why I now wonder whether we’ll be going to the Underworld, or will the Underworld come to us? I think these folks have been resurrected.

A wild theory, but maybe since all the former Dark Ones live inside the current DO’s head, they can’t fully die before the darkness is destroyed? Similar to Voldemort and the horcruxes, as long as there is a piece of him somewhere, he can’t die.

That’s a pretty interesting idea. It might be something like that.

Close the portal to hell, the DOs get sucked back inside or disappear. Just a thought.

So, they skipped out on bail, and there’s a bail bondsperson in town? I think Emma works much better as an action hero detective than as a sorceress, so this is good news to me.
