The mermaids we saw tonight seem to be quite scary and dark, much like the Lost Ones and Peter Pan himself. Are they in league with Peter Pan? What role do you seem them playing this season? How does Ariel fit in?

Througout literature and mythology merpeople have often had a reputation attached to them, much like Sirens. They’re to be feared or weary of. Even in Disney’s Peter Pan, the mermaids wanted to drown Wendy. It’s hard to say yet if they are working for Peter Pan and his followers or just that way naturally.

September 29, 2013 at 9:31 pm #212841RumplesGirlKeymasterI wonder what they do to people who fall into the water. Drown them? Suck out their soul? What is their end game? And are they really “Dark” or is their darkness just because Neverland is? If NL goes back to light and the place we all know from Disney and Barrie, do they go back as well?

So if the curse is lifted, maybe with Henry’s heart, do the mermaids return to good?
And what up with Ariel? how does she fit in?

She could sense that they were disagreeing, so she egged them on a bit, played on their insecurities and conflict so it all got amped up and made the weather angry as well. Paints the mermaids as being quite conniving, but we don’t know yet if they’re into physically harming humans as well as messing with their heads. We’d all been so sure that they were gonna try and violently drown Emma, but that didn’t end up being the case.
As for Ariel, I just think that part of showing the 301 mermaids as being so aggressive, is so they can show Ariel in stark contrast to that, when the time comes.

I hope so. I don’t want mermaids all to be permanently soulless creatures. I want happy “Under the Sea” singing to fill the oceans with joy and laughter. Gosh that’s so Disney of me.

Ariel might be an exception to mermaids being mean being curse sort of how Dreamy was an exception to dwarves being unable to fall in love. Maybe Tinkerbell’s pixie dust landed on Ariel, giving her a kind spirit, similar to how Nova dropped fairy dust on Dreamy, enabling him to fall in love.

I think Ariel will convince them that humans aren’t that bad.
I think that they might be harboring a grudge over something that was done to them in the past.
Perhaps one of them was killed by Hook’s pirate ship like in the Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning, which would explain why he seems to have bad history with them.
Ariel’s mother by chance?
