She does not seem to have any competing shows, could be. She has been cast on ABC shows before.

Was just watching this interview she did for another show last year, and at about the 2:15 mark, they actually talk about her being a good fit for Ariel on OUAT. LOL Sounds like she’s a big fan of the show.

The plot thickens…another tumblr post from May…

However I know I’ve read Joanna Garcia is the one Eddie & Adam want to cast. She’s been linked to the role since the first season and has even said in interviews she’s just waiting for the right time. That would make Ariel in her early 30s. There were rumors she was going to be casted last summer but she got pregnant and it fell through, plus she did have a show then but that was cancelled. It sounded like after that they were waiting till she has the baby and can join this fall.

Plus she is really good friends with Jennifer Morrison and she confirmed they want Joanna, so I’m sure they are going to try to finally make this work out.

That post links to a couple of articles, one seems to just be about that youtube interview I posted, the other is from back in Nov ’11 where JMo mentioned it…

“They are after Joanna Garcia for one of the roles, which would be amazing,”

If JMo was saying as far back as 2011 that she’d heard they were interested in getting JoAnna…I’m all but convinced she’s gonna be our Ariel.

Just caught up with all this. Hmmmmmm. She looks the part!
Also, she’s a little bit older than your typical 16 yr old mermaid (she’s around the same age as Emma and Snow) SO, it’s possible that @runaroundmacy was right that Ariel’s love with Eric is in the past and it’s over and done with because he married someone else. *whispers* All aboard the good ship Hookriel!

RG, our ship isn’t huge, but we’re quite determined to see it sail on, despite love triangle, naysayers and guy named Eric.

I can see Joanna Garcia in the role. The biggest complaint people have had is her age. Ginny, JMo and Emilie are all on their thirties. If they cast Ariel in her late teen then I think it would limit them as to the direction they could go. I’m all for making Ariel older, but like some of the others here, I want her story with Eric to be in the past.

Yeah, casting Ariel around the same age will make for easier integration with the others. JMo’s the same age as JoAnna (34) and playing a character several years younger, so the actresses age doesn’t necessarily indicate the exact age of the character anyway. Late 20s/early 30s works for present day Ariel IMO.

I think she would be great. If they are not doing Hookriel, and want a younger Ariel to bolster teen watchers, well that might fit with the teens in NL, but not so much with age range of most of the main cast.
She’d sort of definitely be one-off then, not a potential recurring or regular player. We’ve had a lot of princesses. Wouldn’t you think our collection is complete? (cue the music)…” but I want more….”

Given the way Aurora/Mulan/Phillip/Cinderella/”Thomas” played was not very satisfying but I was ok with it, because they cannot expand every fairy tale or even every Disney Princess in the ‘stable’. It is like the Disney Parks in that, they don’t have a complete story-ride or live show that does the full story for every princess. Off-hand, I recall Ariel, Belle and Snow.

In the Good Morning Storybrooke feature, Eric wrote a letter to Whale asking what he should do because his girlfriend was a mermaid and he was a “leg man”. Whale’s advice was “Throw her back”. Should we count GMS as a show within a show and if so, where would it be in canon?

I don’t know. I think it was kind of a cute feature-ette. I’m not sure it is really anything more than that. It would be helpful to know when they shot it and when A and E decided to bring Ariel on board.
