Regardless if Hook is Eric or not, it doesn’t seem like NL has a lot of “kingdoms” so if Ariel is located there, the writers will have to create some clever twist of how Eric comes into her life if she is in NL. If she’s cast young, it works to make Eric one of the Lost Ones stolen from FTL or another realm. If she’s cast older, then that idea seems less likely. They could also just leave out her romantic story as they did in a way for Mulan. So we’ll get an Ariel who’ll play some role but we won’t see her happy ending played out or hinted at as having happened.
Yes, from what we can tell thus far NL is a rock in the middle of a vast ocean that is only accessible via bean or being taken by the Shadow. If they do Ariel and they intend to give her a Prince (which is both Disney and Anderson) then they have to come up with a way to explain how Eric is there.

Someone mentioned that somewhere…arg! I’m losing track of posts!
It’s a possibility, for sure. Except they’ve set PP up to be uber creepy and not a nice guy. I’d hate to think Ariel wound up with a nasty boy seeing as she is the MOST requested figure from fans. They might want to go slightly more traditional with her (a nice mix of Anderson and Disney) since they are doing PP a whole new way.

Like I said, just toying with a lot of ideas because I think for them to give us Hook’s back story in a fleeting conversation in the season finale was odd. I didn’t expect that at all. I expect we’ll see it and that there may be more than even Hook knows.
While I think Hook was giving information about himself to get information out of Bae, I do think the information is reliable. There could certainly be more to his story than Killian divulged to Bae in that one scene, but writers often use this didactic style to give insight into characters without having to show it. It’s like a little gem of information at the end of S2 to help wet our appetite for more of Hook’s backstory in S3. Also, I read in an interview by Colin O’Donoghue before this episode had aired that we should expect to discover more about Hook’s background, so I’m fairly certain the story about Killian’s dad abandoning him is true. It would also help add an extra level of complexity to Hook’s statement in “Tallahassee” to Emma about seeing the look of abandonment in the Lost Boys’ eyes; Hook could empathize with Baelfire and Emma’s abandonment issues because Killian had struggled with these feelings himself.

If she needs to learn to swim/ scuba dive etc…. it might make sense for them to cast the actress earlier to give her specialized training.
Probably takes some time to learn how to move naturally whilst wearing a mermaid costume. Probably takes some time to create a custom fit mermaid tail too.
That is a good point, and so it would make a ton of sense if Lanie MacNeil has already been cast as Ariel, since she would presumably need the extra months of practice of working underwater if she is indeed going to take the prize of being the Little Mermaid.

Hook said his father was a fugitive,
We don’t even know yet if Hook was telling Bae the whole truth though.
While we can’t totally rely on Hook to always tell the truth, in this case I believe he was for the reasons I wrote above. Hook struggling with abandonment issues helps explain his empathy for the Lost Boys’, Baelfire’s, and Emma’s struggle of feeling abandoned by their parents.

Also, I don’t think Hook and Ariel were involved romantically. Hook’s true love was Milha, and I don’t think he ever got over this until maybe Emma. I doubt he had a relationship with a mermaid in NL, especially since Hook said the mermaids were cursed and said he hoped they spare Bae’s soul. So, at least at that point, Hook didn’t have a high view of mermaids.
My headcanon basically involves endless unrequited love, playing off the idea from the Anderson version of the story where the mermaid’s prince gave his heart to and married someone else. Killian had already given his heart away to Milah, but Ariel didn’t know that until after she’d become human. She’s still in NL, and he’s about to go back, and the romance happens in present day. (I have thought way too much about this ship. 😆 )
While I like the idea of Hook being paired with someone other than Emma (since it preserves the uniqueness of SwanFire’s relationship), I would have to agree with RG on this one. I don’t think Hook had a relationship with Ariel in the past. If it’s ever going to happen, I believe it would be in the future now that Captain Hook is returning to NL. However, I still think that Captain Hook and Regina will become a pair, especially since now both of them are on the road to recovery (for the present anyway). I always thought that in order for Hooked Queen/EvilHook to become an item, they would each separately need to overcome their issues, and that seems to be happening. Regina is taking ownership of her own mistakes and trying to be a better mother. Thanks to Bae and Emma, Hook is reminded of his ability to help others and to move past his constant need for revenge. By the end of S3, Regina and Killian could make quite the couple.

Also, we still haven’t seen Laine MacNeil’s character on the show, but I’m pretty certain she will appear in S3. The same source that leaked Freya Tingley had been cast is the same source for Lanie’s casting. We still don’t know which character Lanie might appear as, but until I read Ariel’s actual casting call, I’m not ruling out Lanie MacNeil as portraying Ariel.
I’ve been wondering if someone seeing her was a case of mistaken identity, or perhaps she was one of the Lost Ones, (they did specify Ones as opposed to Boys) and she was one of the people with their faces covered.[/quote]
I re-watched the scenes with the Lost Ones, but none of them seemed to match Laine’s physical build or eye color. Also, despite being called Lost Ones vs Boys, Wendy clearly said Peter Pan only chooses boys, which is why Wendy was allowed to return from NL. So, I still think that Peter’s group is comprised entirely of boys, with the exception of Tinker Bell or Tiger Lilly. So, if Laine is anyone other than the Little Mermaid, I believe Laine would most likely be Tink. Yet, if Laine does turn out to be Ariel, I think she could possibly have a romantic relationship with one of the Lost Boys, who are supposed to be 16, which is Laine’s age in real life. I theorized previously that one of the Lost Boys could easily be a kidnapped nobleman from Victorian England (if not a royal prince than at least the son of a lord or a duke). Perhaps Ariel fell in love with this kidnapped prince/nobleman after saving him from the waters surrounding NL. (Assuming that Ariel is the exception to the rule of the mermaid curse and actually prefers to save souls than take them)."That’s how you know you’ve really got a home. That’s possible since they are splitting the season into almost two mini seasons. The first half could focus on PP and the Home Office while the second half is about the Mermaid Kingdom.

Okay, even though Laine isn’t going to be Ariel (boo, I though we had her), then Ariel could still end up with a Lost Boy who turns out to be a kidnapped prince or son of a duke from Victorian England.

That could be a cool twist, but I would only want that to be the case if Peter turned out to be a cursed prince. Maybe a TLK from Ariel could help to break whatever darkness has fallen over NL and could also free the mermaids from their nasty curse, too. Could be another take on “Beauty and the Beast.” Yet, if PP turns out to be inherently evil/capricious then I’d prefer for him not to be romantically linked to Ariel.

May 16, 2013 at 4:11 pm #194849kfchimeraParticipantYeah someone threw out that idea of PP & Ariel, so (I think on a PP thread) that made me wonder if they could do a story of PP’s curse that he wants to grow up and can’t, because he fell in love (or was in love and turned too young). I agree though–do not want Ariel in love with a malevolent PP! Only if it is she is trying to free him from the curse.
