Underage characters drink in tv shows all the time. I just figured that was what was going on.
That’s true. I just found this one a little wierd because they weren’t at someone’s house; they were at a bar. They didn’t seem to be concerned, it seemed perfectly normal that a teenager had purchased and was drinking a martini in public.
Which is why i don’t think that they were just showing underage drinking. I mean they asked Emma to come with them and she’s the Sheriff. I think they are just suggesting the drinking age is 18 in this fake Maine like world.
Did Ashley actually buy the drink herself or did Ruby buy it for her? The way Mary Margaret told her to “pace yourself” sounded like she was warning her not to go overboard and get blind drunk perhaps because she was underage and MM didn’t want to be a wet blanket and put dampeners on the Girls night out. As for where they are drinking, is it Granny’s or somewhere else? Either way, Ruby probably got the bar tender to turn a blind eye by flirting a little.
All magic comes with a price!
Keeper of FelixThe bar was called “The Rabbit Hole”. I just don’t think that Ruby would ask Emma to come if they were underage drinking. And you can’t have someone else buy it and then drink it in a place like that even if you are under 21 in the real world. This is not the real world though. This is a fake Maine where the drinking age appears to be 18.
They did this on Buffy the Vampire slayer. The group was always going to this club having drinks.

I remember that :)! I vaguely recall one line about the bouncers being super lenient or something, but yah.
I tend to agree with the people saying that Storybrooke just has a different drinking age since it’s not a real town. I don’t know if Rumple designed ever detail of the town, or Regina did, or the details just kinda fell into place randomly, but no matter what, there probably wasnt much concern over matching the drinking age with that of the surrounding world that residents couldn’t even leave town to visit. The scene just struck me as a bit odd haha. But I dont think Mary Margret’s really the type to go to a bar with someone drinking illegally, so I guess storybrookes drinking age is lower.
I agree with that. I don’t think Mary Margaret would do it and i don’t think Emma would encourage it.
