Since we all know by now that August IS grown-up Pinocchio, I just thought I’d post this here. Very cute! I’m hoping that the writers explain their different appearances in S2.

Geppetto: Pinocchio? But your hair and your eyes – they’re nothing like I remember.
August: Yes, Papa, but I needed to break with my past and change my appearance completely.

The only reason I take issue with Pinocchio’s hair and eye(?) color changing is that when Mr Gold figured out that August wasn’t Bae, August taunted him a little bit saying, “Do I even look like him?”. That sort of indicates that The adult should bear some resemblance to the child. That’s my only beef.

That’s my problem too. I’m actually beginning to think that the casting directors hired two completely different looking actors just to throw us off. Usually, I like those sorts of tricks, but when the show has already established that they pay close attention to the physical appearance of the characters’ younger counterparts, it makes Pinocchio even that more frustrating. Little Snow looked IDENTICAL to Snow White and Mary Margaret. Everything about her screamed Ginnifer Goodwin. So, why couldn’t the casting director do the same with Pinocchio?

Yes, that was my issue with August being Pinocchio instead of Bae too. It felt like they cared more about fooling the audience into thinking that August was Bae instead of trying to make him look more like young Pinocchio which I felt was rather cheap trick ince I think August still could have fooled Rumple into thinking that he was Bae, even if he didn’t have darker hair, because Rumple was just so desperate to believe that his son had returned. Not that I expected a perfect match, but for me Eion Bailey certainly looks a lot more like Dylan Schmid than Jakob Davies.

I’m just going to be even angrier if and when adult Bae might appear on the show if he does look like Eion Bailey, at least in terms of hair and eye color, because of August’s comment.

Well, I’ve seen it happen where redheads faded into brunettes as an adult. It’s not *that* hard to swallow. Some adults look absolutely nothing like their childhood selves.

My guess is that Pinocchio was cast first and when they cast August, the perfect guy for the role turned out to not be an exact match. I don’t think it’s something they are going to address in the show.

Come from a family of gingers-turned: all of my older brothers, mother, and father had bright red hair that started darkening when they were six or so – not even babies. Mine didn’t. My eldest brother’s hair is probably darker than August’s. As people have said before, it does happen (and in my experience, happens more times than not).
My issue is the eye color – Eion Bailey has some very lovely, blue eyes that stand-out. I’m sure little Snow just spoiled me, but couldn’t Jakob had worn contacts? August couldn’t have because then we would have dark hair, brown eyes – ‘do I even look like him?’ – Kind of!

Agree with the hair & TOTALLY with the eye colour – it felt cheap August being Pino, they just dint cast it well for such an important role 🙁

I’m not trying to be mean, but I couldn’t help but laugh at this thread.

I mean is hair color really all that important? I think Eion is doing awesome as August, despite the fact that he’s not a ginger. The question is, do you think the writers/directors or whoever does the casting should have turned him up just to cast someone with the right hair color even if their performance was–pardon the pun–a bit wooden?

And, yea, i know they could have dyed his hair, but I doubt Eion could pull off being a ginger.

I don’t think about it that much. Both actors who play Pinocchio are great and that’s the most important thing. They could have made one of them wear contact lenses (or color the eyes digitally) so that the eye color would match, but I really don’t think it’s that big of a deal. I just buy the illusion and accept it as part of the show.
