Where a perfect image of Jefferson was getting beheaded, perhaps a perfect image of you would be standing beside yourself 😀
Alice in Wonderland was based on mathematics. Every character and their quirks explain a math theory based on logic and such. The growing bigger thing Alice grew exponentially as when she shrunk. Throught the Looking Glass was based on a chess game where she started at the first rank and ending with the eighth where she’s crowned Queen. Each character was a chess piece and their quirks explained the pieces movements and their limitations. Yes the Quees on a chessboard did whatever she wanted because the piece had no limits. The most limiting pieces are the pawns and the knight. Their movements are such that they do not really have free reign of the board until a pawn reaches the 8th rank where it turns into a queen and does as it pleases. August the white knight taking Emma along like Alice. When Emma reaches the eighth rank she’ll be queen because she is Snow White and Prince Charming’s daughter. She’s already a princess so her becoming queen is not far off and the knight cannot cross the last river when Alice but in this case Emma to be crowned.
Yes, this is where my severed head has been on Emma/Alice….moving over the “final brooke/Storybrooke to become Queen. The Knight guided Alice so why not Emma as well? It just seems so very spot on – or at least, highly in tune with mathematical vibrations coming out of the marriages of all the backstories of each universe.

The caterpillar’s question: “Who are you?”
Hugely important, yes. The focus on names, identity and mirrors (real and metaphorical) are key factors in the OUAT YOUniverse.

Perhaps #1, but not #2 or #3 in my estimation. I’m more in favor of how magical the show’s writers are being in affecting audiences, cast and crew. Everyone touched by this show seems very inspired to me and that’s amazing! I’m also more in favor of the show’s writers emulating Dodgson/Carroll who also wrote with and Author-in-Story and other very imaginative characters– all functioning within a rigorous framework.

Yes, the influence and the patterns are all there and I love the creative team leaves us so many bread crumbs and eggies to tickle our curiosity and draw us deeper down their rabbit hole. Even, if all our speculations aren’t completely right along the way, the writers have, no doubt, sparked our imaginations and fueled our desire to find answers. In the process, we get a few good answers that align with the OUAT Universe and others, that expand our own.
In a sense, we are like the Scarecrow and OUAT creators, The Wizard – not so much giving us our brain but telling us we have always had a brain – and to use OUAT as our journey to expand our ideas and discover new things about ourselves. All, so we can better give a sound and proper reply when The Caterpillar asks, “Who are you?”

http://beta.abc.go.com/shows/once-upon-a-time/photos/sneak-peeks/sneak-peek-119/_m_sneak-peek-119a
I’ve noticed some possible references that may indicate August’s identity. If the pics are what I think they are, Lewis Carroll and The White Knight may be out of the running.
Please, view the pics, if you have not already done so. I believe they are quite telling. I’ll try to describe it without spoiling the fun.
The link should get you to the gallery on the ABC OUAT page. The setting is Mr. Gold’s shop and the props are telling us a story.
In one pic, August is entering the shop. Notice the lamps. Most do not have bulbs but one lamp has a bulb that is off and another lamp, above it, the bulb is on. Also, notice the nice trail the lamp cords make to…a certain musical instrument. It’s quite obvious. If that’s not enough, look at any of the lamps without bulbs. There is a shape created in the negative space by the metal support frame that would normally hold a lamp shade. In fact, imagine holding a bulb in your hand and what else might you make of it?
Another pic in the gallery series shows August in front of a painting. The painting looks as though it might be of an ocean scene but it is obscured by…two lamps without bulbs and what looks like a tattered banjo case. Interesting repetition of shapes, eh? It’s also interesting the “neck” end of the case points to August. Notice also, behind Mr. Gold, the sailboat with its mast pointing to a globe pointing more towards the ocean than the land. The sail boat can be seen more clearly in a different pic and on the shelf above that are some suspect figurines but they are out of focus.
Then, another pic, a close-up of August, seems to mix up the clues a bit. Notice the old-style oil cans on the shelf? Also, there is a figurine of what looks like an asian doll. It’s brightly lit by the lamp above and slightly out-of-focus so I can’t determine if the arms are a part of the figurine or separate…but attached.
There is also what seems to be an old printer’s press in the shop. There are lots of other props but these were the most identifiable upon first viewing. I thought it worth passing along and it may be worth posting at a higher level to see what others think.
Again, the link:
http://beta.abc.go.com/shows/once-upon-a-time/photos/sneak-peeks/sneak-peek-119/_m_sneak-peek-119aLike the hand gestures, shadows and beams of light leading the viewer to details in the painting, “The Last Supper,” there seems to be a visual story being told by the props in Mr. Gold’s shop.
Curiouser and curiouser….then, it is a Curios Shop, right? So, let’s shop.

I have no idea who you think August is, but the text story seems to be saying that they have a relationship, which may mean… Bae.
April 21, 2012 at 1:27 pm #143099charmingParticipantI am starting to condider him being Bae. Pictures say a thousand words. Among them are why would Pinnochio visit Gold. For that matter why would Carroll/WK visit Gold. August has a vintage motorcycle and an old typewriter. Gold own a pawn shop and antique store so there was a clue from the very beginning. Bae would be the only character that would visit Gold. Out of all of the going theories who would visit Gold???…. is the question based on the pictures.
April 21, 2012 at 1:45 pm #143101the wizParticipantIn the theory I’ve promoted about August, his magic trumps Mr. Gold’s and he will assist Emma in strategically breaking the curse. So it would behoove August to scope out Mr. Gold’s shop and psyche to gain a competitive advantage. He could also be there to assess Mr. Gold’s potential as an ally in breaking the curse, in foiling Regina’s plots of war and in using magic in the process.
August does not need to be related in FTL to be in the shop in SB. Mr. Gold is appropriately apprehensive about August, since Mr. Gold has made many enemies. That does not mean that August has a vendetta against Mr. Gold, only a mission to break the curse.

Good point. Know your enemy.

I didn’t want to spoil the treasure hunt thus no direct naming of the identity, as far as the pics of and the props in Mr. Gold’s shop seem to suggest. Also, since I made the original post, I’ve figured out what another prop might be. The pic link is below and here is the description:
between the boat and the globe is a box or a school book with: “LETTERS” boldly printed on it.
So, let’s try this again:
Think of a FTL story, with an ocean, a boat, a piano-like instrument, a school book…
Now, put all this together in your head and don’t forget what a light bulb or its shape might be – or more precisely, what you can make out of it. Surely, a fairy tale story will come to mind.http://beta.abc.go.com/shows/once-upon-a-time/photos/sneak-peeks/sneak-peek-119/_m_sneak-peek-119b
