That’s what I don’t undrstand. Some of his lies are justifiable. He needs to keep his true identity hidden or else the Evil Queen will have him killed or thrown in the mental asylum. But some of this other lies, like the lemurs in Napal, just seemed unnecessary. If he is in fact turning back into wood from all the lies he’s told, then it’s his own fault. Which is sad, because I really like August and would like to see him become a permanent series regular on the show. But if he continues to lie like this, then he’s going to be in some real trouble.

Yeah, see I HATE this theory – 1st he was already a REAL boy in FTL, Not a wooden one when the curse hit (as far as we know & it looks likely he stayed real from the Ep 20 promos), so He’d either be a puppet again if he wasnt saved from the curse (if indeed the curse does undo enchantments- ie Jiminey cricket back into a man), or a real boy still if he was saved from the curse.
If the curse is turning him into wood again, there’s plenty of ways around it, like he could just leave for a few days & then turn up again etc
I mean IF the curse is effecting him in that way after being saved from it, it means it has to be effecting Emma in the same way as well ie she never gets a happy ending & everything & one she loves will be taken away ….. which is a pretty big hole to get round since they’ve outright said she’s not effected by the curse like everyone else in SB 😉

If Rumple knows your name he will have a power over you. I guess he felt he will eventually face Gold/ Rumple. He did not kill August because he felt he’ll eventually die of whatever is ailing him and yet before he dies it maybe killing Gold to not know his name. It means August’s threat level to Gold in Gold’s point of view is unknown. August is one of three people who has made Rumple/ Gold lose it. Belle and Moe French being the other two. So we know that three people are able to push Rumple/ Gold’s buttons.

Since August IS Pinocchio, I think that resolves a lot of lingering questions about his character. He does lie, even though he wishes he could be good. However, he came to our wold as a 7-year-old real boy but without a conscience or a father to raise him correctly to be good. He left baby Emma and followed the crowd, because that is what Pinocchio did in the original fairy-tale. Since he escaped the effects of the curse originally, he has spent the last 28 years as a human seeking pleasure, like the puppet Pinocchio did on Pleasure Island. Also, Jiminy said that when Geppetto chose not to heed the Blue Fairy’s warning and not tell Snow White the truth, he was teaching Pinocchio a bad lesson. In our world, Pinocchio/August has lied a lot.

As a grown man, August has returned since he is in fact turning back into wood. He said it happened at the exact moment Emma decided to stay in SB. That was the trigger that started magic in SB. August is reverting back into a puppet form because that is his true original substance. It is comparable to how Jiminy, who was originally a man before being magically turned into a cricket in FTL, is now a man again in SB. August was simply a puppet before the Blue Fairy’s enchantment made him a real boy after he showed himself to be honest, brave, and true. In our world, however, August/Pinocchio hasn’t had good modeling and has been lazy and lying. He is suffering the consequences now that Emma has brought magic to SB.

I agree with your view on Pin. On the one hand we could say he isn’t that good of a person, but then, he also wasn’t raised properly. I wonder how he did grow up. As a street kid?
It’s somehow sad, given how innocent and good willing he was as a 7-year-old. The way he tried to stop Emma from crying or repairing her craddle … He probably thought the adults could take care of Emma better than him. And seriously, you can’t expect to have such a young boy to truly understand the seriousness and importance of having Emma grow up and believe in FTL and her destiny. We’ve already seen how little Snow couldn’t keep a promise (not blaming her, she was tricked and only wanted the best) and she was older.
It’ll be interesting to see what will happen with Pin in the next episodes (if he even appears …).

It was a huge burden to put on the kid. I get why Geppetto sent him away, thinking it’d be for the best in the long run, but poor Pinocchio. After the August/Gold scenes in The Return where Mr Gold was asking for his son’s forgiveness, I took August’s angst to be partly because he wished his own father could say the same to him. Now that we’ve seen the situation Geppetto put him in, I believe that even more.

Wow….so I was spot on about August being Pinocchio, but I wasn’t completely right about his situation. I can’t believe Gepetto forced the Blue Fairy into a situation in which she had to lie! That caught me off guard. Someone should have pointed out to him that it would be better for Pinocchio to be kept close rather than sent off into a strange world alone with a baby! Poor August!
