August’s reaction to Emma/Neal

When MM told August that Neal was back in Storybrook, he said something along the lines of “They’re back together?” My first reaction to this was August is in love with Emma and doesn’t want her with Neal. I thought this simply because of the look on his (“wooden”) face of a mix between suprise, sadness, and envy. I wanted to see what everyone else thought on this.

I know it was mentioned in the intial reactions podcast by, I believe, Daniel that August was happy because that could mean his redemention.

So my question, do you guys think he was happy or was he sad that he would never get a chance with her?

I think it was his redemption. I think August has always seen Emma as a little sister, as someone he was supposed to protect. He feels guilty that he took away Emma’s love, the only time she’s ever had a family and felt happy was with Neal and August took that away so that Emma could be the savior. Adam and Eddy have often said the relationship between August and Emma was one of brother/sister not potential lovers.

Yeah, my perception of it was that he was happy they’d found each other–that he wanted them together. He seemed so eager for it, and a little let down when Snow said they weren’t actually together. I’m now less convinced that August knew about Henry than I was before, but I’m pretty sure he ships Swanfire.

My take is that he was happy Emma and Nealfire were together. I yep think August wanted Neal to run to Storybrook and be with Emma when he sent the postcard.

I agree with all that, but there’s something else that hasn’t been mentioned yet.

MM cares for August, obviously, but part of the reasion she was so insistant that August could find redemption was becasue she wanted to know it was possible for herself. Couldn’t that have been a bit of the reasion behind his reaction?

If Neal came to SB on his own, if he could face all his fears to find love, then maybe that meant August could face his and his failures to one day face his father again?

August talked about having the hope to make things right between Emma and Neal, since he is responsible for their separation.
