Snow and Charming awoke during the Dark Curse because of the flower that lets true loves find one another. They remembered who they were–as did Rumple–and almost went after Emma. How do you feel about this sudden development? Was it a retcon in your eyes or did it make sense and did you enjoy it?
Anyone else wonder why it took 10 years for that flower to appear in SB, though?

Having it not be an actual retcon flashback would have solved the biggest issue of the episode, and it could have been even more powerful.
April 16, 2017 at 9:47 pm #336225AKAParticipantI thought it was complete garbage and rather time wasting. I guess I realize that there a very few episodes left so I have a great sense of urgency to develop characters and bring story lines to a good ending so I hate when they waste time. I mean we literally saw 2 seconds of Belle and Gideon. Poor Belle this half is barely there and there is a huge story line between her, Rumple, and Gideon which I feel is not being developed so that we can come up with magical flowers that do nothing but give CS fans their “proof” of true love and rewrite season 1. Season 1 was great, and when something is not broken don’t fix it.

I think the emotion of them seeing little Emma and of them meeting again of Snow almost stabbing Regina was all good, but the why it was happening and how it happened was pretty dumb.
April 16, 2017 at 9:53 pm #336227WickedRegalParticipantThis was definetly a retcon episode…possibly the biggest retcon in the entire series! Well aside from Cinderella’s baby’s gender incident, but all the retcons from Snowing waking up during the curse to magic portals/flowers appearing in a Land With No Magic, left my head spinning.
The best thing about any of this was Snow realizing she couldn’t sacrifice an entire realm to get her wish, and the sacrifice she and Charming made reminded me why they were heroes.
But let’s be honest…where were all these darkness detecting flowers when Cora & Hook came to town? Or how about Peter Pan, Zelena, Ingrid, the Queens of Darkness, Dark Swan, Evil Queen?!!

All of this!!!!

The writers are hoping to cash in on nostaligic feelings by setting up the same scenario as the Pilot once more, only this time ten years into the future and not in the Enchanted Forest. It’s a sort of emotional manipulation in which they hope you don’t notice that they are, at the same time, destroying the very basic DNA of the show and replacing it with a watered down, convoluted, overly complicated piece of narrative that simply doesn’t work because of how powerful the original story was. Think about this way: what’s more powerful? Snow and Charming meeting on the Storybrooke streets as Snow and Charming for the first time in twenty-eight years because their daughter shared a true love’s kiss with her child or Snow and Charming meeting in a cold and isolated hospital room, having been woke up because of a random heretofore unmentioned flower that has some vague magical properties and not because of Emma at all?
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 16, 2017 at 9:57 pm #336230TheWatcherParticipantTotal retcon. Also, if they awoke Rumpel, why didn’t he remember anything until he heard Emma’s name when she arrived? Did he drink the potion too?
Shouldn’t the flowers have been a-blooming with, like, every villain we’ve had. Nimue and all the dark ones, or Chernabog, or the queens of darkeness, or Ingrid, Cora? The flowers just NOW decide to pop up?
Wait, I haven’t rewatched, but did the flowers just start growing in the woods or were they always there? hmmm.
Idk. I don’t like it. So many McGuffins, so much random new magic stuff. This is how you DON’T do fantasy.

I believe Rumple said he was going to drink the potion too, so yeah. I guess Emma still makes him remember again. I will say it was nice to get an actual onscreen confirmation that Emma’s name was what triggered Rumple’s memories, cause prior to that it was only fully confirmed during interviews and only slightly hinted in earlier episodes.
April 16, 2017 at 10:01 pm #336232bibliophileParticipantIt was a very bad idea to do this. It just did not work. It was fun for a minute or two to go back to cursed Storybrooke, but there was way to much magic in this ‘land without magic’ and that flower appearing for no shown reason 10 years into the curse and then 20 some years later when the Black Fairy appeared and only these two times makes zero sense.

He did, yes.
