I know this does not totally relate to this topic, but did anyone else have a problem with Emma choosing to get Hook back instead of waking her parents from their “permanent” sleep? I mean this whole episode was about Snow realizing she can’t sacrifice everyone else’s happiness for her own and then you have the parallel where Emma chooses her own happiness over her parents. Is this a coincidence, or are the writers trying to say something. I did not think Emma would die at the end of the season but I am starting to think that maybe that is what they are setting up, for Emma to finally choose everyone else’s happiness over her own. What do you think?
[adrotate group="5"]April 16, 2017 at 10:05 pm #336239RumplesGirlKeymasterBut let’s be honest…where were all these darkness detecting flowers when Cora & Hook came to town? Or how about Peter Pan, Zelena, Ingrid, the Queens of Darkness, Dark Swan, Evil Queen?!!
Shouldn’t the flowers have been a-blooming with, like, every villain we’ve had. Nimue and all the dark ones, or Chernabog, or the queens of darkeness, or Ingrid, Cora? The flowers just NOW decide to pop up?
So much this!

I believe Rumple said he was going to drink the potion too, so yeah. I guess Emma still makes him remember again.
Forgetting potions always suck. Emma and Hook travel through time and need Rumple to get back… he drinks a forgetting potion and forgets that Bae will die (why would he want to do that? He could’ve had decades to plan a way around Bae’s death… that is much more like what Rumple would actually do). Regina learns who Henry is a decade before Emma returns… she drinks a forgetting potion instead of planning a way to defeat Emma. Bae suddenly turns into a powerhungry killer… Rumple gives him a forgetting potion to make it all better. Now Snow, Charming and Rumple are drinking these things again?! Forgetting potions are SO much worse than squid ink.

I am 100% bothered by the fact that a mother with a three month old thinks it’s more important for someone else to come back home and is prepared for her and her husband to fall into a forever-coma. I get that they have a blind faith that Emma will save them and I’m not even mad that it’s Hook who’s the beneficiary but so far Emma has been a bit distracted by other things and the most powerful witch in the town has been incredibly unsuccessful.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 16, 2017 at 10:15 pm #336245AKAParticipantThat would have to mean that Snow actually acknowledges that she has baby Neal. The show made it sound like a permanent coma like sleep so why would Emma choose Hook and not her parents?
April 16, 2017 at 10:17 pm #336247bibliophileParticipantIt does bother me that Emma cared more about getting Hook back then saving her parents, but it was hardly surprising given that she has already taken her whole family (and a blackmailed Rumple) into to hell to save Hook from what was for him a reasonably heroic death.

Because, by and large, Emma is almost dangerously codependent on Hook.

I think what they were trying to do was similar to what they did with Ruth in “Lady of the Lake”. Ruth wanted Snow to drink the water to cure her fertility instead of saving her own life:
Ruth: I want you to have it. That last sip of water – I want you to drink it.
Snow White: No. No, I couldn’t.
Ruth: That water can lift your curse. Allow you and my son to have a child.
Snow White: But you’ll die. I won’t let you give your life for this.
Ruth: That’s what parents do. They put their children first. Someday, you’ll understand. However, I guess what makes this situation different is that:
1) Snow and Charming have a baby son that they need to take care of. Ruth didn’t.
2) Emma made the choice and went along with Snow’s plan, while Snow wasn’t willing to go through with Ruth’s plan. Ruth had to pretend to drink the water and have Lancelot secretly give Snow the real water.I think the idea of parents putting their children first in itself is still a good message, but the execution in this scenario left mixed signals.

It is a good message but the writers keep forgetting that Snowing have another baby. So yeah, mixed signals for sure.

What I don’t understand is why Emma went along with the idea. Snow was sleeping, Emma could have and should have used the flower on her parents and woke them up but instead she sacrifices her parents lives to go after Hook.
