They could have gone to Emma, could have told her that they are her parents, prepared her for her destiny and brought her back to storybrooke on her 28th birthday.
So they wouldn’t have tried to raise her, just told her about her destiny and come back for her on her 28th Birthday? Would she have believed it though? And if they tried to raise her, how would that have worked logistically with her being in the foster system? They would let Snow and Charming just “kidnap” her.
They could have told her they were her parents, easily proven with a DNA test, made something up for the system for why they had to give her up, then told Emma the truth about everything, raise her, then Emma is 28, all three of them head to storybrooke in order for Emma to break the curse (sure Henry doesn’t exist but they didn’t know that when they had to make that decision).

April 17, 2017 at 4:41 am #336303GaultheriaParticipantSnow and Charming awoke during the Dark Curse because of the flower that lets true loves find one another. They remembered who they were–as did Rumple–and almost went after Emma. How do you feel about this sudden development? Was it a retcon in your eyes or did it make sense and did you enjoy it?
Anyone else wonder why it took 10 years for that flower to appear in SB, though?
How about if that same day happened 10,227 times?
During the first 28 years of the curse, all of the townspeople except Regina (and later Henry) had their lives and memories reset every 24 hours. Maybe a few details changed each day — knowledge of the current date, for instance — to keep people from freaking out about “How come it’s suddenly winter?!?” and stuff like that, but for the most part the townspeople didn’t move on to experience Day 2 of the curse until Emma came to town.

April 17, 2017 at 8:22 am #336304RumplesGirlKeymasterI have a pointless question: Snowing remembered that stupid flower after the curse was broken, why didn’t the gang look for it in order to bring Emma and Snow back back in season 2? or Henry in season 3? or Anna in season 4? or Emma in season 5?
Or why did they wait this long to tell Emma? The Charmings have been in a good place, emotionally speaking, for awhile now.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 17, 2017 at 10:02 am #336310sierraleoneParticipantWhen Hook asked Emma to marry him, she should have rejoined with “Will you raise baby Neil with me?” omg, terrible decision.
Also, unless Rumple is just bored with the idea of being bored for 18 more years, why the heck would he drink a forgetting potion?
He doesn’t care about breaking the curse to help the curse-afflicted people, he just wanted it broken so he could cross the town line. Why doesn’t he cut a deal with the Charmings, and say, you get that portal open, and let me come through with you guys? Or just hitchhike without their consent? I don’t think we have ever seen a portal prevent hitchhikers from coming along. Heck, imaginary people from wish-realms can apparently be made real by portals!

The *only* thing I can think of was that he did the blood test–to find Neal–and it told him that Neal wasn’t here. Yeah, yeah that wouldn’t make any sense to Rumple because he doesn’t know that Neal went to NVL for a long time but I don’t think Neal’s back in our world yet. It’s *very* close but maybe not yet?
However, it still doesn’t make a lick of sense that Rumple would see that Neal wasn’t in this world and still be like, “oh I’ll just erase my memories and wait another 18 years!” I mean, clearly this door would take Snowing out into the real world so it could allow Rumple the same and there’s that crisis solved.

Emma: “Well you see Neil, our parents felt I needed the best chance going into the final battle, and they felt I could only do that with my true love, your brother-in-law Hook, next to me. And rather than trust in their and my abilities, or feel that you needed them more… When faced with a choice between me having them next to me / figuring out a way to find Hook later / raising you, OR me having Hook next to me / them going into a permanent cursed-sleep from which they could never be awoken / abandoning you. Well, they picked the latter. They felt guilty. Oh, not about you, about abandoning me. The first time around that is. Mom didn’t even seem conflicted about it. Didn’t mention you at all. I only remember you the next day when Cinderella called and said that mom and dad forgot to pick you up from day-care *again*. So, yep, they picked me and Hook, over themselves and you. Our parents were such heroes.

Oh Yeah Neal let me not forget that I could have chosen to ignore my mom’s plan and used the pixie dust to wake up mom and dad but I thought well I haven’t seen Hook in like two whole days and I must see him now or I just won’t survive so I decided to use the dust to get him back instead of waking up mom and dad. I am such a wonderful daughter and loving sister.

LOL! You two just made my day with this

To be fair, if baby Neal put any thought to it, he’d figure out there would be lots of hate and anger to spread around. Hook, just out of jealously (justifiably so, considering he was abandoned in favour of Hook). His mother for abandoning him. His sister for compounding that decision by not over-riding Snow’s decision. His father might get off scot-free if it is clear to that Charming didn’t make this decision (whether he would have given the choice is another matter). Maybe in anger add in Evil Queen/Regina (EQ for putting them in this situation, Regina for not being able to break the sleeping curse.) Maybe Henry for not talking sense into his mother when she made that decision. And then near EVERYONE else in town for acting like Snow making a sensible decision, and no one voicing opposition to it. I think that sentiment alone would drive baby Neal out of town. Everyone in town would saintify the Charmings, because they’d buy into the myth that the reason Emma won in the final battle was because of her parent’s sacrifice to get Hook to her side. Ugh.

Seeing is believing. Plus, kids often believe in magic. As to her parents’ claim, they had DNA tests in 1993.
