What if the RumBelle baby becomes Once’s version of Persephone? whilst RumBelle can’t void the deal completely they negotiate it to the point where they get to raise the child, however once she comes of age, she has to spend six months of the year down with Hades but the other half of the year with her parents.

I would find that incredibly squicky since Baby Rumbelle is a newborn and her parents agreeing to her eventual marriage to a sociopathic god.
So sure, why not.

Ha! What an interesting thought. And troubling. Would this mean we get to keep Hades, though? Because if it does, I’m all for it (except please, no more propane hair).

It would be just like Adam and Eddy to find a way to make Hades a part of this already twisted family tree….all of a sudden, this seems like a strong possibility!

Oy. And while we’re at it, let’s not stop there and follow what @Gautheria suggested, which is to say, an excursion into Park Chan-wook territory. Then this show will be truly complete.
*sigh* Whichever way it goes, I predict more crazy coming our way before too long.

Praying that this will not be season 6’s arc….rescuing baby Evil Beauty

March 24, 2016 at 9:51 pm #320015GloriaDrewThisParticipantAfter the latest podcast, I am completely, completely on board the idea of Rumple becoming the new lord of the dead and his daughter is Once’s version of Persephone…. it lays down a more bittersweet ending for Rumbelle (the child sees each parent for only a portion of the year and the (arguably toxic) couple are never together) and also, in terms of mirroring the father/child story that motivated the entire series, provides a slight progression from where Rumple started with Bae but still not granting him a completely happy ending (which you could argue he doesn’t deserve after all he’s done): he has to lose his child again and again for a portion of every year, but always knows that she (or he, but sticking with the Persephone angle) will return to him.
March 25, 2016 at 2:03 am #320018KebParticipantI’m excited about it because, if nothing else, it means that they have to tell some of Belle’s story as well.
I agree that it sucks that Rumple wasn’t fully honest with his wife, but it was a sin of omission about something that he did when he thought she was out of the picture. Bad, but not “she didn’t consent” bad. On the contrary, she enthusiastically embraced her husband under terms that were technically quite correct–when he’d sent her away, he WAS putting her first, protecting her, and being selfless about it. He hadn’t even thought yet of taking back the DO powers.
The baby’s conception was no crime. Rumple’s secrets are going to come out; I’d like to believe he’ll be brave enough to reveal at least some of them to Belle before Hades/the heroes get around to it, but I have my doubts. Still, that hope is part of the tension that this situation sets up.
It’s dramatic, and it makes for an interesting story, even if parts of it have been rehashed a LOT.
I gotta say I loved Hades out-Rumpling Rumple and the twist of Rumple’s child being contracted away. (And the way it was phrased, it was just Rumple’s child–nothing in the show suggests that it had to be Milah’s as well, except for her assumption that it would have to be because they were married.) That part felt like classic first-season caliber Once. I’m looking forward to the fallout…but still hoping for my eventual happy Rumbelle family (and missing Baelfire already).

March 25, 2016 at 8:36 am #320022RumplesGirlKeymasterThe baby’s conception was no crime.
A crime in the traditional sense, no. But there is an emotional crime here and while I’ll concede that “wonky consent” might not be the best turn of phrase for it, there is still a deep betrayal here. One that need more than a “I’m sorry, sweetie” from the offender and more than just an acknowledgement of some suckyness. Because the real question is: had Belle know who Rumple was when she came back (the newly instated Dark One) would she still have slept with him? That’s your litmus test.
Belle believes she is sleeping with pure-hearted, hero Rumple. She’s not. She’s sleeping with the man who had that status, apparently learned something during that time, and then consciously and readily gave it all up to become the man who is not pure hearted and not a hero but, instead, the man who stands in opposition to all those things, who is still a man who “takes what he wants.” The same person whom, last time, Belle kicked out of town and magically divorced. In other words, Belle is now sleeping with a man with whom she did not wish to engage in any romantic liaisons last time. The answer to the above litmus test then: no. That’s a problem. That’s a big problem and more than just a lie of omission.
So yes, she’s sleeping with Rumple in the broad sense of his identity. This isn’t thinking your sleeping Marian, but really it’s Zelena territory. But in a less broad definition of Rumple’s character, Belle did not consent to sleep with the man Rumple is now. She consented to sleep with the man she thought he was–and while it’s absolutely possible that Rumple could become that man again (via plot device hat suck or otherwise)–in that moment, that single moment in time, Belle doesn’t really *know* who she is having relations with.
ETA: this is why I’m actually leaning heavily toward the Persephone theory. At least more so than I was when it was brought up here and more so than when I suggested it in podcast. For all the reasons @Gloriadrewthis says above, it would be a pretty fitting ending for Rumple and Rumbelle at this stage in their relationship.
