I have a theory that Henry’s father is Bae’s son.
I think the magic beans are a one time use thing. Sort of like the portal grows out of the bean. The person using the bean can decide their destination but once the portal is open they can’t change their destination so when Bae threw his bean, it opened a portal to a land without magic because Bae wanted to go there with Rumple. Even though Rumple didn’t go with him, Bae still went to a land without magic (rather than changing his destination as I have seen in other theories).
If the dark curse hitting fairytale land brought everyone to our world in 1983 (making Emma 28 in the pilot) then it would make sense that Bae, who went through a portal to our world 300 hundred years before the dark curse hit, would have arrived decades before everyone else.
I think Bae should appear in our world in 1964. This would then make him 19 in 1969 when young men in America were being drafted into the Vietnam war. (This could provide an emotional moment for the audience where, after everything Rumple went through to prevent Bae from fighting in the ogre wars, Bae still ended up in a war).
Back to 1964, I like the idea that Bae came out the portal in a park. Picture the scene, he’d be emotional and upset because Rumple broke their deal and let him go. A girl comes up to him, she’s a similar age but slightly younger and she utters the immortal line “boy, why are you crying?”
(The girl is Wendy. The show has already changed the Peter Pan story hence why Wendy is now in America in the 1960s instead of London in the early 1900s)
Back to 1969, Bae gets drafted. Between then and when the war ended in 1975, Bae is injured and falls in love with a nurse who was looking after him whilst he recovered from his injuries. The nurse turns out to be Wendy, the first person he met in our world. They get married and have kids. (At least two, Jane-for obvious reasons, and Henry’s father. I like the idea of a third child Bae would have called Milah after his mother).
Anyway, Bae would tell his children about fairytale land but disguises it as stories, maybe including a this is how I met your mother story. (Rumple may even come up in these stories in some form). Years later, about 1998/1999/early 2000, Wendy dies which sends Henry’s father off the rails. He gets involved in criminal activities and hooks up with Emma.(If Henry is 10 in the pilot, he’d be born around 2001)
If my theory is correct, which it probably won’t be, Bae should be around 62 years old. We keep thinking that every young brown haired guy cast is going to be Bae. However, in The Return, they highlighted the fact that Rumple doesn’t know how old Bae is which suggests to me that when we next meet Bae, he isn’t going to be all that young.
Perhaps we should keep our eyes out for casting news of an older gentleman who we’d immediately think can’t be Bae because he’s too old. 😆

Not sure how I feel about him going to war but as to him aging, here’s an interesting thought. Rumple did say to Smee that he can turn back the clock of time or turn it forward again. So, as much as I’m not keen on Bae being an elderly gent, Rumple could remedy that. Still, I’m pretty sold on Bae being Neal Cassady & Henry’s father. Also hoping that Peter Pan factors in as well.

I don’t think Bae would want Rumple to turn him back into a boy again especially if Bae has his own family. Bae has issues with magic especially with Rumple using it as a fix all solution.
Something I find interesting is that we’ve never seen Rumple use his aging forward/aging backwards power nor have we seen it mentioned at all before now. Why mention something unless they plan on having him use it later on?

Perhaps but why point out that he can manipulate time unless they plan on using that power later.

I also think its to point out that only the dark one can live forever. Except for Blue. Maybe their powers somehow came from the same source?October 29, 2012 at 11:10 pm #158558melliemdParticipantI looooove this theory. I’ve never been a fan of Bae = Henry’s father, this makes me enjoy the idea of Bae’s relation to Henry a lot more, and also makes me more excited for a Bae/Rumple reunion. I like the idea of them being near the same age, if not Bae being older.

The only ways Bae would not be significantly older is if there’s a major distortion between how time works in the two land or Bae was in a land that for a while allowed him not to age then he came to the real world.

Well, think about it, time must work differently in Enchanted Forest, because why else would the curse stop time. I’m still hooked on Neal being Bae, and that Bae because of traveling to another Realm (Earth) via the beans has his aging greatly slowed. Also, I’m wondering whether Cora and Regina will manage to lift the barrier and flood our world with Magic :p
