I am so upset right now I can’t even put into words how I feel. But I’ll try.
The reason I was always so dead-set against Bae being Henry’s father is because of the completely astronomically unlikely coincidence that Bae and Emma would find one another in our world! It’s so big I’m tempted to use the term Jump The Shark. I’m listening to the Initial Reactions podcast as I type this and I just can’t believe they’re not talking about this! My suspension of disbelief was ripped apart, and their’s wasn’t?
I could tell the writers struggled with this this. All they gave us was a little bit of dialog from Bae asking Emma, “Do you believe in fate or destiny? All I know is we’re powerless to external forces.” Well, that answer is not acceptable. The episode showed us that the pairing of Bae and Emma was not in the design of Rumple.
I have to think about this more, to clarify my thoughts better so I can give meaningful criticism.
This show is dead to me, which is a shame because everything else about this episode was SO FULL OF AWSOME!

The two persons, who are from the same land meet in an other land without knowing it. This is for me a perfect fairy tale and I love the show even more after this episode, because Bae is Henrys father.Heros don't get their Happy Ending!

This is like the best thing that could have happened now just look at Henry, how much magic he has in his family. I thought this episode was incredible I’m just anxious to see where it goes from here now

malchore…. You know there will be twists in the future so I hope you do not give up entirely…..

It makes me love the show even more! the poetry and the irony of “the savior of the curse” + “the reason behind the curse”, meeting in our world, is pure magic, for me it talks about fate and destiny, and that when two people are meant to meet, nothing can stop that…maybe im just a hopeless romantic, and like these types of stories… Also that makes Henry 100% from fairytale land, like the seer said he is more than he seems, so I bet he is going to be powerful!! so all of this is part of his history, his fairytale, and that gets me excited!!

Short answer: For me, fiction needs to be internally consistent. It has to have some level of plausibility within the context of the story and world it inhabits. I am an atheist which means I don’t just accept things on faith alone. And that’s what the writers gave us tonight; an episode that said, “just accept this plot turn on faith, we cannot offer any rational explanation.” I can suspend my disbelief for Fantasy and Sci-Fi stories because they can be written with plausibility and consistency within their world.
And so, Bae meeting Emma on blind luck alone is so implausible it broke my belief in the story.

I’m also disapointed about the fact of Baelfire being Henry’s father. Not only because of the reasons you give, but also because I can’t see how the boy that Bae was has became the man that Neal is.
But, as you say, there are lots of things that are awsome, and if there is one thing I learnt on stories, is that one can not judge them until the very end.So, sure, Rumplestiltskin didn’t plan that his son and Emma met, fall in love, etc… but, who knows if it was the plan of another source of power? not necesarily magical, but really skilled in manipulate people.
As I said, i’m also disapointed, and I’m not defending the storyline, but give it a chance: things can still fit at the end 🙂

You know how we hear over and over that all magic comes with a price? Well Rumple never seems to pay a price for his magic. This whole curse was created by Rumple, who hasn’t had to pay a price that we’ve understood. So, what if THIS is his price – that his grandson (Henry) is the “boy who will be his undoing?” as prophesied by the Seer just before she died? That’s a horrible price.
“undoing” could be interpreted in several ways. It could mean death, but it could also be removing the curse of the dark one from Rumple.
