Someting about this man, the way he walked, the way he moved, his surroundings, even the way he looks reminds me of the White Rabbit.
I think he is tied in to Neverland.
I am also and have been for sometime, a firm believer tha Bae is Pan.

October 2, 2012 at 4:08 am #155039antbeeParticipantThis website, http://ouatv1.blogspot.com/2012/10/once-upon-time-michael-raymond-james.html goes into great detail about Mysterious Man’s apartment. It’s similar to the TVLine article that does, but there’s even better pictures at this link. Plus, they finally answer what that hand thing is.
It’s an Aesthetic Apparatus poster, “Control and Capital” http://shop.walkerart.org/collections/posters/products/aesthetic-apparatus-poster-control-capital. If you look at it up close, it reminds me even more of Rumple letting Bae go.
There’s the vines representing the green vortex that sucked Bae in. There’s his dad’s hand that is red representing not only the Curse that has caused his dad to get the blood of innocent people on his hands, but also the deal that his dad broke despite their handshake. Finally, instead of holding onto his only son, his father would rather hold onto control and capital just like the red hand in the artwork is doing.

October 2, 2012 at 4:53 am #155050faux paxParticipantBut there are supposed to be some major hints to his identity in his apartment and I saw nothing that screamed “Bae”
Perhaps nothing that necessarily screamed “Bae,” but the clock collection did remind me a lot of Henry. Perhaps that’s the easy clue they were talking about?
He had three *journals* stacked on his desk, all the same. With the dream catcher in the same shot, just behind, it seems to me he may keep dream journals. From what I remember from past psych classes, this is a way of dealing with incredibly traumatic events.
I like the idea that what Rumple caused lasting damage and not just him being bitter or angry or whatnot. I think that Bae almost has to be damaged deeply if Rumple is ever going to change. There are only a precious few people who he cares about and if the only way he will care about his actions is if they hurt one of those people.
In the episode The Stranger, I always though it odd that AWB kniew to call Gold Papa when he himself called Gepetto Father. Who told him that’s what Bae called Rumple? The Blue Fairy? Possibly, however, I believe that somewhere, either in the orphanage or out in the real world, Bae & AWB met and that’s how AWB knows so much about Rumple.
I don’t like the idea that Bae told AWB about the dagger. I mean, it’s the one thing that can kill his dad and I would hate to see him fall far enough not to care about that. Even though I never really bought that AWB was talking on the phone to Henry, the only possibility I feel comfortable with is that, first off Bae would have to trust AWB impeccably–like best friend like–to tell him and he only told him about the compelling the dark one, not killing him, because it was a last resort for August. I think it would have torn Bae to tell him that much, but I think that’s as far as he could bring himself to go.
Even if AWB is now turned to wood, he certainly could have relayed info about Bae to the Blue Fairy, or Jefferson (yeah, I believe there’s a connection with Jefferson/Bae/AWB) or even Henry during Operation Cobra. AWB made provisions to make sure that someone knew about Bae’s existence & whereabouts should he not be able to notify him himself.
Wasn’t there rumors of a deleted scene with Jefferson and August that were floating around last season and, correct me if i’m wrong, but didn’t it NOT make it onto the DVD/BluRay? Perhaps this was what they were talking about. I mean if Jefferson was the only NOT evil person who remembered, maybe August was forced to ask him to get the message out, just in case August couldn’t get her to believe in time.
October 2, 2012 at 6:05 am #155083ashez2ashesParticipantIt really wouldn’t be that far fetched for Bae and August to know each other if Henry’s book was a mass published book… Especially if either of them are the writer of the book. They could have met through the authors website.

Yes, I know we’ve speculated here about how Bae fits being Henry’s dad given what we know about what Emma said about Henry’s dad, and while I still believe that he just has to be the dad, he doesn’t seem as bad as she described him. Okay, I know people change and mature, but he still seemed like the sad, little boy that his father abandoned. I know a few people here didn’t like the idea when I presented it last time that maybe Bae wasn’t necessarily a criminal or criminal type that saved his own skin rather than going to jail with Emma or running away with her or was a married guy that ended it when his wife found out, but maybe he was simply a guy got scared because he knew no one would ever believe what happened to him and broke it off by making up something like he was married.
Again people can change, and it could be that when Bae first arrived, he did get sucked into a gang or something like that, that offered him a makeshift family and protection, and he changed his life around like Emma did her’s. Or maybe he was married at one point or both. It’s just very difficult to know for sure just based on one little glimpse into his life now, but for me he just seemed like a guy that was a loner and has very much been for most of his life. I don’t think he has any friends except perhaps a few acquaintances from his job that he probably hates and maybe a few people the he knows that he talks about music with. He’s probably had very few serious romantic relationships, maybe only one perhaps with Emma. Maybe he did get into some minor trouble when he was younger, but he doesn’t seem like he was ever a bad boy type, imo. I definitely think he’s bitter, cynical, and angry, how could you not be, but I guess instead of him leashing that out on the world, to me it seems like he kept it all bottled up on the inside.
Finally, I’m not sure if this the cover on his pull out bed is a Balfour tartan, but it sort of looks like a variation of it to me.
October 2, 2012 at 1:40 pm #155108lilredParticipantThe glimpse of this guy’s life does give off that ‘loner’ vibe. His reaction to the opened window, the dropped iPod – he seems pretty resigned that things aren’t going to work out.
Really do think this guy is Baelfire. Looking at the setup in the first episode, I think we can all agree that larger mysteries are going to be center stage this season. Baelfire’s identity may not be a BIG reveal – but his knowledge of Storybrooke/ possible link to whoever sent the post card add enough questions that I for one wouldn’t be disappointed that Bae’s just THERE – living in an average apartment in New York.
The only other option I kind of like would be this character being the Wizard of Oz – but I don’t see why he would get an opening, especially since Neverland is probably going to be highlighted this season. Why bring Oz into the equation yet? Shouldn’t they be stocking up on other lands for later seasons?
Interesting find on the tartan, AntBee. You might want to check out Henry’s bedroom at some point. I’d take a picture if my mac wasn’t acting up, but Henry’s bed does have a tartan blanket that looks pretty similar to Mystery Man’s bedding. I have both screens held up to each other right now (paused at the end of the Stranger, 1:12 left in the episode according to Netflix), and the colors are the same: light blue, red, and golden. Bae’s….mystery man’s bedding might be larger squares – but the colors are spot on. 😀
October 2, 2012 at 2:17 pm #155112faux paxParticipantAuntBee, great ceatch with the Tartan. Never would have thought of that. (There is so many clues here I think my brain is going to explode until they tell us 😛 )

Perhaps i didn’t word my post exactly like i ment. I was saying that I do like the idea of him having issues, now that it looks like they’re not going to make him a criminal, you know, the kind that obviously has issues. I think a part of me would feel really, really cheated if he was still EXACTLY like the boy he was when he went through the portal.
Bae wasn’t necessarily a criminal or criminal type that saved his own skin rather than going to jail with Emma or running away with her or was a married guy that ended it when his wife found out, but maybe he was simply a guy got scared because he knew no one would ever believe what happened to him and broke it off by making up something like he was married.
Or maybe Emma is just seeing what happened through the eyes of a hurt child, which can make things seem that much more worse. I kind of have a theory that whatever happened had to do with magic (I mean, he obviously knows about Storybrook) and that’s why he couldn’t tell her. Of course she’s going to be mad and think he’s “not a hero” if she only got one side of the story (not that she would necessarily have listened).
