The logic I’ve always gone with is that it -blooms- until his 21st year, but that doesn’t mean that it wilts as soon as he’s 21. So he could have been closer to 15 or so. And Lumiere might have exaggerated the length of the curse a bit, too.

Been checking in on this thread all day and finally found something to add:

B and the B is my favorite Disney movie and it’s the one I try not to think about too much because from everything that is said versus everything that is shown, it doesn’t make sense, just like everyone is pointing out.

As for the “it’s been 10 years…” bit, I always assumed that 10 years was an easier line to write into the song, given the meter and pacing, ect. I think that the Beast was supposed to be about 15 years old when he was changed and then he changed back when he was 21 (making the Curse about 7 years).

Lumiere says “Ten years we’ve been rusting. Needing so much more than dusting. Needing exercise, a chance to use our skills!”

I think the curse was ten years otherwise why would they be rusting and need dusting? However it is possible (and I think it has already been suggested) that the curse stopped everyone from aging. The enchantress told the prince that if he didn’t learn to love someone and earn their love in return then he would remain a beast “for all time”. “His 21st year” could either mean the prince’s 21st birthday or his 21st year as a beast. Either way the maths doesn’t work out unless the prince was 11 when he was cursed but he does look older in the painting and the stain glass window.

All magic comes with a price!

There’s also some evidence to be drawn from the Christmas sequel, if you want to call that canon–since they show this incident from a slightly different angle and include footage of the young prince. There he looks more like a teenager than a little boy.
