That’s true, hjbau. If he transported with the Curse into Storybrooke he would have to be a child. The only way he could have grown up is if he was outside the Curse.

They had better have a very good explanation for how Pinnochio not only stayed a boy, but avoided the curse and traveled to “the real world” as a boy. Because the curse was evoked about 5-10 minutes after Emma went through.
I really never liked the story of Pinnochio, which is why I was hoping August wouldn’t be him.
April 1, 2012 at 5:21 pm #140523angiebelleParticipantI don’t think August as Peter Pan makes much sense at all. First off- we have seen no references to any of the Pan characters or stories. I don’t think Pan would even be from Fairytale land itself anyway. Wendy, Michael, and John were from a very specific time and place in our world, and Neverland is like Wonderland- a completely different realm. Not to say we won’t see his story in future episodes, but I think having August turn out to be him would be completely random and out of place.
Pinocchio on the other hand- he was already human when the curse was enacted, so he would be human in Storybrooke and our world. They made a point to tell us way back in Archie’s backstory that Gepetto’s Storybrooke alter ego had no children. Originally, I thought that was just the curse taking away his happily ever after, but now I think it’s because Pinocchio somehow escaped through the wardrobe. Gepetto helped build the wardrobe- perhaps he hid his son there. The newspaper article about Emma as a baby said she was found by a 7 year old boy.
Plus, August knows all about the book (he may have written it) and who Emma is….he has to be an insider. If Pinocchio came to our world at age 7 and grew up, he’d still remember everything. The only people who knew about Emma being the savior were those who worked closely with the royal couple.
As far as August being Rumple’s son, the writers have indicated that Rumple became the Dark One centuries before the curse was enacted, so the only way this would be remotely plausible would be if Bae was somehow stuck frozen in time for many years.
April 1, 2012 at 6:59 pm #140529PheeParticipantWas just reading another forum and saw someone mention set photos of a scene involving August and Marco so I googled and found this:
http://www.tvequals.com/2012/03/12/exclusive-on-set-photos-from-abcs-once-upon-a-time/
At one end of the street, series stars Robert Carlyle (Mr. Gold/Rumpelstiltskin), Eion Bailey (August Booth) and Tony Amendola (Marco/Gepetto) filmed a scene in Mr. Gold’s Pawn Shop. There’s no telling for sure what was going on in the scene, as most of it took place inside the shop, but it seems to involve all three and what appeared to be a large cuckoo clock. One thing’s for sure, it looks like we’re going to see more of Gepetto’s story very soon. That’s totally Pinocchio checking up on dear old dad. 😉
April 2, 2012 at 5:20 am #140599lorem ipsumParticipantI really hope that August isn’t Pinocchio. How would the writers explain Pinocchio’s aging when none of the children from FTL aged? We see Pinocchio in the pilot, which is also right before the curse hits, as a little boy, at the council meeting and helping Gepetto build the wardrobe. Which indicates that Pinocchio was there in Snow’s castle when the curse hit. The only way I can see that Pinocchio escapes the curse, w/o Rumple’s help, is to have been turned back into wood and been made into a part of the wardrobe. Farfetched? That would mean, in my understanding of the curse, that Pinocchio remains wooden/part of the wardrobe in Storybrooke. The only other exlplanation I can think of is a deal with the EQ (as Rumple made) Gepetto makes re Pinocchio. I agree that he is just a kid in Storybrooke that we will meet later. One of Henry’s classmates perhaps?
As for August as Bael, I like that idea better. I just like Bael better than Pinocchio. Rumple created the curse initially and could have done something to save his son beforehand. Maybe time moves a lot slower in FTL. The opening monologue states that the EQ banished a bunch of story book characters to our world (not just fairy tale characters) so August could be just about anybody really but I really hope he’s not Pinocchio. But if he is… at least he’s a lot more interesting than the Disney movie version :). I like the Peter Pan theory. Both Peter Pan and August like adventures and both like stories. We’ll definitely find out soon!

Pinocchio is a large cuckoo clock 😆 😆 😆 😆 I figured he either reverted back to wood or was an orphan boy similar to Ava and Nicholas. but I like the cuckoo clock idea better.
April 2, 2012 at 8:32 pm #140689angiebelleParticipantIt’s easy to explain how it might be possible for Pinocchio to grow up, though.
Gepetto could have helped him escape when he built the magic wardrobe in an effort to protect his son. Therefore Pinocchio grew up in our world unaffected by the curse. But since he was connected to the people there- as with Emma- he was able to enter Storybrooke.
They made a point to tell us early on that Gepetto in Storybrooke has no children. I think if Pinocchio existed in Storybrooke as an inanimate object or a child in school, we would have seen him by now.
August knows too much to be a character who was not close to the central characters when the curse was enacted.
August as Bae would require many random twists to make possible…how did he get to our world? How would he know about Emma? What about the fact that the writers said Rumple became the Dark One centuries earlier? I will be very surprised if they go that route….it would require some serious manipulation of events.
April 2, 2012 at 8:59 pm #140695hjbauParticipantYeah there are pictures of that scene with August, Rumpel, and Geppetto buying the clock.

April 3, 2012 at 3:45 am #140733lorem ipsumParticipantI still don’t see how Pinocchio escaped the curse unless he became part of the wardrobe. The wardrobe only took one, Emma, so if Pinocchio went through with her, he couldn’t have been human. He would have had to have reverted to wood. Its the only logic I can think of (granted these are Lost writers). How is Gepetto able to save Pinocchio from the curse otherwise? Does he have some kind of magic? Made a deal with Rumple? The EQ? As for Gepetto not having any children, that would be the loss of his happy ending. All Gepetto ever wanted was a child, in the original story, and when Pinocchio becomes a real boy that is the happy ending.
If Pinocchio is an inanimate object (such as that cuckoo clock) we could well have seen him in Mr. Gold’s pawn shop. As an orphan child, not necessarily, as they did with Hansel and Gretel. I like the idea of a wooden inanimate object. What a twist! A cricket from FTL turns back into a man, a boy turns back into wood.
August as Bae would mean that Rumple saved him somehow. A lot of explaining, yes but I still prefer it to him being Pinocchio. Especially after seeing the promo :). I know, wishful thinking, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that he’s not Pinocchio. I like the idea of Peter Pan too. A boy who never wants to grow up who likes hearing stories in FTL growing up to write/tell stories in our world. This curse gives you what you don’t want/an unhappy ending.
