It would be interesting to see if he turns all sparkly again. 😉

If NL is a tropical island, he is going to need to lose the limp and the suits, making him be full on Dark One makes the most sense to explain that.
But…I’m still sad.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 13, 2013 at 4:52 am #193638kfchimeraParticipantThat was just …./sniff sad for Rumbelle. I did notice how much they put Belle in the color blue at the Dock though –blue nails, dress–clearly, she was infected with Blue Fairy Plot Device Sickness. Ack, it’s spreading! I kid you not, the code for that color is 0000BF. 😆 😮 😆
So the only comfort I had was thinking, well she did get her memories back, and even if she is left behind, perhaps that means she can be key in another storyline where we can see some smart, adventurous Belle again. Maybe she helps get Neal back to SB–or if our heroes are in trouble in NL, she ends up saving them somehow later.
I agree though, it made little sense for Rumpel to ask her to cast a spell and stay behind.

I can see him leaving Lacey behind, I just would never have believed him leaving his Belle behind. But I was thinking, maybe she’ll oversee the new bean crop and then follow the rest of the main cast with some beans in tow?

I am a nerd at heart.
May 13, 2013 at 5:20 am #193649MyrilParticipantThink it makes sense to leave Belle behind, if seeing it from Gold’s perspective. And for the sake of story telling.
First: Gold isn’t expecting at this moment to come back from this tour alive. When you love people you want to protect them from harm, pain as best as possible. And even though losing a loved one causes pain no matter what, people knowing or thinking that they’re dying often try to make it as easy as they can for those who have to stay behind, who will have to live with the loss. Gold doesn’t want Belle to suffer seeing im getting undone, what he thinks means getting killed.
Second: Gold seems to have a bit of an idea who they might have to face, and it sounds dangerous, so taking Belle with him would mean putting her into harm’s way. Letting her stay in SB, with giving her the means to protect the town from outsiders again with a cloaking spell looks right now to be the safer choice.
Belle understands Gold better than anyone, and she loves him. As painful as it is for her she let’s him go alone, trusting her feelings, that despite what Gold believes, he will come back. Besides that she might have to deal with some stuff on her own, and bit of alone time might be good for her to deal with the Lacey side of herself.
Sadly the latter might be nothing we’re going to see on the show, to avoid things becoming to confusing by jumping between even more places and times now, but it’s what I see as her story while she is in SB and together with the dwarfs, Granny, Red takes care of things there. Some more buddy moments for Belle with Grumpy and with Ruby. But admittely I like Belle as character on her own more than I like Rumbelle.
I know, the writers are breaking all Rumbelle shippers’ hearts, because we probably are not going to see any Rumbelle action in present time for a while, but it is very much in character in my opinion. And I can think of plenty of interesting stories, besides the happy reunion moment that some day will come. Storywise think letting Belle stay in SB is far more interesting than letting her go with Gold and the others to hunt for Henry. The Jolly Joker is already crowded with heroes and anti-heroes.
Know I am repeating myself: Happy endings come at the end of a story. So, sorry, either happy endings or some more seasons for the show, seasons where all one true love couples will go through plenty of angst and drama and being kept apart by inner or outer forces. Happy endings can be more likely found in real life than on any TV series 😉
Concerning the Blue Fairy: Did Gold ever trust fairies? So why should he give his spell to her? Gold isn’t really a reasonable guy if it comes to fairies. Besides, they were a bit in a rush to follow Greg and Tamara and Henry, the Blue Fairy was nowhere near the docks as far as we know.
Think that Gold had worked out the new cloak spell over the past days while being with Lacey, but was a little too busy with hanging out with her to get everything to actually enact the spell. Now, when deciding that the one thing to do to honor his son is to go on a quest to get Henry back, and that he wants Belle to stay in SB (to be safe), he gave Belle the spell, trusting she will find a way to cast it, so she will be protected. It’s though not something anyone could cast in a second, it takes preparations, so even Gold couldn’t do it in that moment.
¯\_(?????? ?)_/¯

I’m just thankful she was given an assignment…that means she has something to do and hopefully that means she will still be involved somehow. I love RumBelle, but my real concern is that Belle herself will drift out of the show. That would be heartbreaking to me. I can deal with Rumple and Belle being separated as long as Belle still has a place in the story.
May 13, 2013 at 11:01 am #193691rumbelledearieParticipantShe’s already drifting out of the show, considering she’s barely even been in it 🙁
There was such a chance for character development and they didn’t take it.
I’m beginning to think we’re being stupid even investing in her or the relationship because obviously they’re just a side thing to A & E and we’re not going to get anything good. I still love them but it’s hard to stay invested in a relationship or character when you get squat for 3 seasons. Seriously, we’ve literally seen next to nothing with Belle and Rumbelle.May 13, 2013 at 11:21 am #193694storybrookegirlParticipantI think that we’ll see more Belle next season, and while it was super shocking that Rumple asked her to stay behind, I don’t think Belle is the type to be begging her guy to stay with her or take her somewhere, especially when there’s work to be done. She’s brave and smart, she’ll figure out how to get back together.
I really loved that moment in the episode where Rumple questioned Plot Device Fairy. When the dwarves got the potion, he was all like, What? Why now? And Grumpy was so quick to defend, saying “She’s been working on it all along.” I think that the BF’s convenient magical successes and failures will be addressed next season. Can anyone say ulterior motives?

My hope is that by separating them it will give them the chance to develop Belle as her own character. Many people complain that she’s only there to be Rumple’s girlfriend. Well, the position she’s in now, if she’s gonna be doing stuff, she’ll be doing it as an independent character, not as one half of a couple.
If outsiders, like THO, do manage to find SB and invade, Belle will be front and centre in the attempt to defend SB. If anything happens to SB, if they all get run out of town, then that will make it even harder for Rumple to find her again, so she’ll defend that town with everything she has if anyone comes to threaten it.
As long as they go in a direction like this, with them using the opportunity to expand her character without Rumple around, it will make the separation easier to bear for me. I really didn’t think they’d split them up, so was shocked when it happened, but I have to believe that there’s a method to their madness, and if their reasoning is to make Belle a stronger character in her own right, then that would make me happy in the long run, even though I’m currently sad that Rumbelle are separated.
I suspect that if there’s anyone we won’t see much of in the first part of next season, it will be Nealfire in FTL, rather than Belle in SB. There’s something major going on in NL, so it would make sense to have that land, past and present, be a focus. If we’re seeing stuff that’s related to THO in NL, which is likely, given that GOAT took Henry there, then it would also make sense to show SB as THO encroaches there too. So I think if any land gets put on the backburner in the immediate future, it’ll be FTL.

OMG I really hope we get some BF backstory that shows that there is actually something more to her! I want her to end up being diabolical, instead of a plot-device. Totally rolled my eyes over her having made the potion that popped up at just the right time, but on the plus side, it gave us Dwarves invading Gold’s shop to get their stuff back, it gave us a callback to Belle and Grumpy being old friends, and it led to the return of Chip. So it wasn’t all bad.
