I don’t know if they get their happy ending or not, it’s too early to tell. And I agree that their reunion was rushed and unrealistic, especially Belle’s reaction. She was surprisingly fine for a person who spend 28 years in a mental hospital. But on the other hand this whole episode was rushed, there was so much going on, too much for me, so there wasn’t enough time too concentrate on anything in particular.
I think that people are taking what Rumple said about power in the last scene too literally. I don’t think he is power hungry. We must not forget why he created the curse. He hasn’t found his son yet. That’s probably how he planned the whole thing: first find himself in the land without magic where his son went to and then bring the magic back so that he could use it to find Bae. How else would he be able to track down Bae. It would be like looking for a needle in a haystack.
And we have already seen that he is willing to give up his powers once he finds Bae so let’s not exaggerate here with this power hunger. He was fine without it for 28 years.[adrotate group="5"]May 14, 2012 at 3:04 pm #146691angiebelleParticipantI think there is likely more to it than what we saw…it may not be a case of Rumple just wants power. The bottle of love was created for a specific reason from the beginning. I agree that maybe he needs the magic to find Bae. We are still left up in the air as to what that purple cloud will actually cause. I think he has every intention of holding on to Belle this time around.

But overall, I thought it was sweet and in character for the both of them. Belle didn’t seem to be someone who holds grudges–though I wouldn’t have blamed her.
As for Rumpelstiltskin bringing in magic, I think it’s for several reasons.1). To help him look for Baelfire. That one being the obvious reason.
2). For his own protection. He’s in just as much trouble as Regina, and with good reason.
3). Keep Belle safe. Now that he’s found her, he’s certainly not going to want to let her go. And he’s probably going to do all that he can to keep Regina away from her.May 14, 2012 at 3:22 pm #146694JosephineParticipantLoved the reunion. Much more Rumbelle goodness than I ever thought I’d see, however, it did feel rushed to me. But the whole episode was “wham, bam, thank you Ma’am”.
Do I think they’ll get their happy ending? No way in heaven, hell, or fairytale land. They’re going to have one big rocky road of discomfort coming up. But I do think she’s going to serve a purpose, if they don’t kill her off, of anchoring him. Rumple is psycho, he needs some grip on something and maybe she’ll be the little conscious helping him make decisions.

Don’t you guys find the Rumbelle reunion quite cheesy, very opposite to Skin Deep?
I disagree. I was actually surprised by how touching it was. I also loved the tears of joy Mr. Gold shed when he finally saw her. And the hand on the shoulder move was so sweet. 😀

I agree. I was deeply touched and so releaved when Mr. Gold finally saw Belle. I also loved that Jefferson was the one who told her to find Mr. Gold. Well, isn’t he the match-maker? 😆
But Belle and Gold are definitely going to be in for some hard times. Like others have said, Belle needs to act as Mr. Gold’s conscience and keep him grounded in reality. But overall, I’m not too worried. The writers are obsessed with the concept of true love. And in the end, that’s what’s going to save Mr. Gold. Either Belle’s love or Baelfire’s love. Either one will be powerful enough to eventually snap him out of his wonderlust.
May 14, 2012 at 3:53 pm #146702an empty heartParticipantI LOVED their reunion. I almost squealed when Mr. Gold placed his hand on Belle’s shoulder just to see if she was real. 😥 I’m actually surprised by the number of scenes they got in last night’s episode. I thought we would only get 1 small reunion scene, but we got so much more. 😀
I’m pretty sure Belle is going to be heavily featured in season 2 as well. The show ended on Belle standing next to Mr. Gold’s side. So, it kind of hinted that Belle will be living with Mr. Gold at the start of season 2. Especially given the fact that Jefferson told her to find Mr. Gold so that he could protect her, and the only way to do that effectively is for her to live with him. But seeing how happy Belle was to see Mr. Gold when she got her memories back, I don’t think she’ll be complaining too much.
But I do have some concerns about Mr. Gold and his quest for magic and power. I’m still not clear on why he released magic into Storybrooke. Like others have said, it wouldn’t matter either way. If they all would have returned to Fairytale land, then he still would have regained his powers, so the end result would still be the same. But I’m still not sure why he did it though. I don’t believe that Mr. Gold is only out for power. He created the curse to find Baelfire. He was ready to give up his power when he was talking to August in the woods. So, why would he all of a sudden do a complete 180 and then seek magic out?
So, once again, Mr. Gold’s true intentions are unclear. But that’s why I love him. 😀
May 14, 2012 at 4:24 pm #146714beauty the beastParticipantThere’s only so much the writers can cram into one episode. Reunions, dragons, magic, double-crossing…it’s a lot to fit into a single episode. So, I wasn’t at all disappointed. I was pleasantly surprised by just how much screentime Belle and Gold actually got. I thought the writers were just going to have Regina tell Mr. Gold about Belle, and then BOOM. THE END. 😯 So, for them to have 2 reunion scenes and mutal exchanges of “I love you” was more than I could have asked for. 😀
The first scene in the shop was my favorite scene of the entire episode. Mr. Gold was so genuinely shocked and releaved to see Belle again. Tears in his eyes, having to touch her to see if she was real…it was too perfect. 😥
I’m also not too concerned about their love story as a whole. Like others have noted, the writers are in love with love. They mention true love in almost every episode. We’ve already seen that Belle is the key to breaking Rumpel’s curse. And in the end, I think she’s going to be the one to save him.
May 14, 2012 at 4:31 pm #146718eternalflameParticipantIs it strange that I cried during Mr. Gold and Belle’s reunion, but for Snow and Charming’s? 😆 Absence makes the heart grow fonder. And Rumbelle has been absent for a LONG TIME. So, seeing them together just made my heart explode with joy and happiness. 😀
I loved how Mr. Gold looked as if he had seen a ghost. He had to actually touch her just to make sure that he wasn’t hallucinating. And the way Mr. Gold reacted when Belle asked him if he would protect her just broke my heart. You could tell that her words just melted his heart. 😥
I’m still holding out hope for Mr. Gold. The man is straight wacky, ok. 😆 So, it’s going to take some time for him to snap out of his thousand year old habits.

I agree Beauty, even though I could have watched a whole other hour of just Rumbelle scenes, there was obviously a lot of stuff crammed into the Season Finale. Hopefully, the next season will sort out and fill in some of those gaps.
At least we have concrete validation that both Rumpel and Belle know that they have true love together. There will certainly be many issues still to sort out. It seems Rumbelle may replace MM/David as the star crossed couple of Season 2. Unfortunately that will mean quite a bit of angst before hopefully true love will survive as for Snow/Charming.
It is frustrating that Rumple is still seeking out magic/power. He at least has told Belle for certain that he loves her, no longer cowering behind “loves his power more”. But he certainly does seem to love BOTH Belle and power. This was his same problem with Bae and power, leading to him losing Bae. Back in The Stranger, when Gold thought August was Bae, he seemed momentarily like he would give up power by sacrificing the dagger. Right now don’t know if he was planning to use the true love potion in the magic well or if he decided this after being frustrated that he had not yet found Bae.
My assumption is his overall motivation in still to find Bae. Once we get to that point, I think Bae and Belle together will still have to really work on getting Rumple to give up his power.
It’s like Rumple has an addiction to power. Maybe they’re going to need an intervention session headed by Archie. Maybe Rumple, Regina, and even Blue Fairy need to start a Poweraholics Anonymous group. One day at a time… But alas, I digress.
