I think Belle is the author of the book and here are my reasons why. 😀
-Belle was around when the stories took place. Since Belle was not taken immediately after she left Rumpel’s castle, it could be assumed that she probably witnessed many of the events that took place in the book. She could have easily written them down in an effort to preserve the stories of her world.
-Belle writing the book would also explain Rumpelstiltskin’s mysterious absence from the book. Henry stated that he still hasn’t been able to figure out who Mr. Gold is. Henry is a very smart little boy. He’s been able to identify every single fairytale character thus far. But why not Rumpel? I think Belle left Rumpel’s story out of the book in an attempt to keep him safe. If everyone were to discover Rumpel’s participation in the ruining of their happy endings, they would punish him along with the Evil Queen. In fact, I think punishing the Evil Queen is exactly what Belle wants. Belle knows that the Evil Queen tricked her into kissing Rumpel and breaking his curse. And I can’t help but think that she’s a little irked by the whole kidnapping fiasco. 😆
-Belle writing the book may also explain why Regina has her locked in the asylum. Maybe it isn’t just so that she’ll have leverage over Mr. Gold. Maybe Regina knows that Belle is the author of the book and wants to keep her locked up because she’s a danger to Regina’s plan. This would also explain Regina’s reluctance to use the “Belle Card.” If she offers Mr. Gold Belle, then she risks letting loose the woman who wrote the book.
-The writers also said that Belle will play a significant role in the finale. Of course, that could mean anything, but it could also be a hint that maybe Belle is more important that we think.

That actually kind of makes sense.

Plus, I think there ought to be another reason behind Belle’s imprisonment in the Psych Ward. Regina wasn’t expecting Gold to have any memory of his previous life, so her connection to him can’t be the only reason she’s locked up.

Yes, she did. 😀 I wonder if Belle was the librarian at the old run-down library? Maybe she wrote the book there.

May 9, 2012 at 1:37 am #146041charmingParticipantBelle’s story also came after Rumple’s story, so it can also be another explaination of why it is not in the book. Rumple never told Belle much about himself. He said he “had a son and then he was gone, end of story.” She can’t write down what she does not know right?
May 9, 2012 at 1:38 am #146043charmingParticipantBelle in the Disney version also went to a library to borrow a book if I’m am remembering correctly too.

But Rumpel’s entire story has been left out. His part in the curse. Him helping the queen. His name isn’t even in the book. It almost seems intentional.
