I’m sticking with Rumple writing the book. Belle is a good choice, but I truly believe that Regina nabbed Belle soon after she left Rumple. Why would Regina make up that whole story to him if she didn’t have her hostage somewhere already. I don’t believe a word she said to Rumple. So if she had Belle already in custody when the curse took effect then Regina kept her. If Belle has retained her EF memories the reason would probably be that Regina had no need of “writing” her a story, she had her prisoner already with no chance of parole. And if that’s the case I don’t see Belle writing the story from inside her little cell. Of course, that’s all dependent on Belle being Regina’s prisoner since after she talked to Grumpy in the pub following her flee from Rumple.
Yikes, this is confusing. I haven’t been this tied up in conspiracies and intricate details since the good old days of Harry Potter.

Then how do you explain Belle’s appearance in “Dreamy?” She was free and cleary not in any real danger. I don’t think Regina captured Belle immediately after she left Rumpel’s palace.
May 9, 2012 at 2:46 am #146051charmingParticipantHow do we know Regina captured her in FTL? Yes, she’s incarcerated in a mental ward in SB but she could have been captured in SB. Regina never said she took her in FTL. Her father locked her in a tower and she jumped to kill herself. That could be made up and she will be anything to get her way.

I’m hoping that the writers’ statements about Belle playing a very important role in the finale is a clue to her possibly being the author of the book. Or maybe they’re just hinting at her finally be rescued. Who knows? But I like the theory nonetheless. The way the show left off on Belle’s story was very “to be continued…” They made it seem as if her story would be coming back in full force later on in the season.
It would also help explian why Belle was still running around free after she left Rumpel. I’m almost beginning to think that Regina captured her after the curse took effect.

That’s actually something I was thinking about. I don’t understand how/why she was there. Some characters just seem to pop up in random places like they’re really not supposed to be there. I had the same feeling with the latest appearance of Bae’s friend, Morraine. She shows up when Rumpel leaves Bae and leaves when Rumpel returns. I’m still suspicious of both of these characters in their respective later appearances.

I imagine she was on her journey home when she stopped at the pub in “Dreamy”. I think she was snatched afterward. We already imagine she would be leary of Regina if she met her again, so she was probably tricked somehow. I don’t believe she ever even made it back to her father. Or maybe she did make it back to her father and Regina made a deal with him. Somehow I feel that she was nabbed in EF, not in Storybrooke.

Hmm, possibly. I just wish we got a flashback of what happened to Belle after she left Rumpel’s castle. That whole story is just a muddle mess for me. 😕

The one thing I’ve noticed is the curse didn’t alter family connections. In SB, Red and Granny are still related, Hansel and Gretel are still siblings and their father is the same person, Sean/Thomas still has the same father. Maybe that’s anothet reason Regina had Jefferson locked in the manor, Paige/Grace would know he’s her father. That would mean she’s living with a foster family in SB. Perhaps Paige was told that her father died or left. If that is the case, then the curse wouldn’t have affected the family ties between Belle and her father. If Gold doesn’t know about Belle, then he was beating Moe French in response to what Regina told him in FTL. If Gold does know about Belle, then he was beating Moe French because he believes he should have protected her in SB.

How would Belle know the details of the stories in the book? Do we assume that everything WE see in FTL is in the book? How would Belle know how Jiminy got to be a cricket, for example?
I think Belle’s significance hinges in Mr. Gold’s line to Regina—“You no longer have anything I want.” I really expected her to at least hint that this wasn’t true in the last episode, but I guess we may see it in the finale. Regina may play Belle to get Gold to help Henry. Magic made him sick so maybe he needs magic to cure him.
