You know if she has been trapped down there and has been aware all that time she probably would be insane. At least a little bit.

I think you may be right. Now, I’m actually nervous about her return. Most people think she’ll still be her usual sweet and fiesty self. But the one of the main aspects of the curse is that it turns the fairytale characters into their polar opposites. So, Belle could break out of the mental asylum and become the new villain for all we know. 😯

I’ll be interested to see the reunion between Belle and Mr Gold.
Whilst we know Rumpel believes her to be dead, we don’t know what Belle was told for Rumpel not coming to help her, especially if Regina has anything to do with it. I think Belle remembers fairytale land. The curse was supposed to take away happy endings but Belle didn’t get a happy ending, neither did Rumpel or Jefferson and those two remember their fairytale lives so it’s quite plausible for Belle to remember too.
I don’t know how accurate this information is but I read an interesting article onOUAT wiki about Belle’s real world counterpart. Since wikis can be edited by anyone, I take this information with a grain of salt; especially the ‘trivia’ section.’

I can just see the first thing Belle does when she comes across Rumpel in Storybrooke is slapping him across the face. Belle’s been locked in the mental ward probably from the word go so she’s not going to necessarily demonstrate the same personality she had in fairytale land though I think there will still be flashes of the old Belle that come through. Rumpel could see this and realize that Belle isn’t broken by her experiences but is more than likely “chipped”.
You may given me a new fanfic idea 😆 😀 which is bad for me because I already have so many unfinished rumbelle fanfics I’m working on (nasty plot bunnies) but I do want her confrontation/reunion with Rumpel to be somewhat tense and heated.

I would love for Belle to escape from the mental ward of her own accord because it would really set Regina on edge. She’s been keeping Belle locked away from Rumpel for a while so if Rumpel was to discover Belle was alive and who locked her up, I wouldn’t want to be in Regina’s shoes when Rumpel comes calling.
Love that idea too, especially since so many of the women on this show are really strong characters. I just have this vision of Mr. Gold beating Regina with his cane, somewhere in the woods and the only way he would get her to stay would be to add ‘Regina, please stay,’ and she would have to comply.

Nothing but the voices in your head and hardly any human contact. I don’t think that she can just be fine is all. Not if she remembers and is aware of the passage of time. If she doesn’t remember and is in a haze and is not aware of the passage of time then she could be fine.

Didn’t Robert Carlyle say in an interview that we would probably see “Gold and Belle” rather than “Rumpel and Belle”?
Belle is alive in Storybrooke whereas Baelfire as far as we know isn’t.

Yes, he did. Belle will be more prominent in Storybrooke rather than Fairytale during the finale. 😉

Belle is alive quite right. Baelfire as far as we know isn’t …..right again.

I have the strangest feeling that Baelfire has been in contact with Belle. No evidence, just a feeling.

It could be the huntsman that Belle has the scene with possibly in fairytale land. I’m sure I heard somewhere that the huntsman was going to reappear towards the end of the series though I could be wrong.
I just have the feeling that Rumpel is going to have to let go of Baelfire. He’s been fixated on finding his son for so long and it was a real kick in the teeth for him when he thought he had actually found him only to realize August was just pretending. I don’t think there will be a reunion between Rumpel and Bae but Rumpel will find out what became of Bae, perhaps he grew up and had a family. I just think that what Rumpel did with the curse all in the name of finding his son is a bit too big (he destroyed everyones lives) to reward him with his son. Bae would probably never forgive him for it anyway.
With Belle coming back into the picture, it’s going to be an interesting time for Rumpel. He believed her to be dead so her turning up alive is going to feel like a second chance to him. He is probably going to be extremely possessive and protective over her and, depending on Belle’s state of mind and how much she remembers, there are going to be a few issues to work out between them.
I can see Rumpel facing a choice. Does he choose Belle who is alive in front of him or does he risk it all and continue searching for Bae? A theme that is prominent with Rumpel is that of cowardice. Now, as a parent, does he continue looking for his child, destroying others lives in the process even though he may never see Bae again or does he come to terms with the fact that his son is gone because of his actions?
Rumpel doesn’t like to accept the blame for his actions, as demonstrated in Skin Deep and the farytale part of the Return. He likes to project the blame and guilt onto others and I think for him to have any chance of redemption he has to fully accept his own wrongdoing and admit to his mistakes. He kind of did that to August when he thought he was Bae in the Return but was just as quick to almost run him through with the dagger when he realised he wasn’t talking to Bae after all.
Rumpel’s got a lot of issues that he hides behind a mask of evil and magic. Belle and Baelfire saw beneath the mask which is why they are the only two who can save Rumpel from himself.
All magic comes with a price!
