Well I don’t think that killing off Belle would be a formative moment for Rumpel.
If it was for the first time that he would lose her, then maybe yes. But he already lost her. He has been mourning her death and feeling guilty for like 28 years or more since then. And then what, he would get her back for a moment just to lose her again. That would crush him, don’t you think. There is a limit to what one character in a book/film can bear. And that would just be too much.
As for Belle. I simply don’t think she deserves it. Such solution wouldn’t do her character justice. She’s a girl who threw away prejudice to love someone and as a result ended up in prison. And the writers would punish her even more for it? I can’t believe it. What kind of message would that be?
But I’ve noticed that in American shows characters are often killed off for random reasons, like writers don’t have ideas what to do with the character or they follow this ” let’s kill someone once in a while” line of thinking.
And the writers of OUAT started their Beauty and the Beast plotline pretty strong, many people loved it. It is probably going to be difficult to match that. It will require some clever writing to fit Belle nicely in the storyline. So it might be safer/easier for the writers to get rid of her. If that’s the case, I will definitely be disappionted, but not surprised.[adrotate group="5"]March 21, 2012 at 6:51 pm #139402hjbauParticipantI think that if Belle died that would be an extremely important moment in Rumpel’s life, very formative though not in a good way. Just like whatever happened to the Queen was bad, but has been very effected the entirety of her life since then. I do think that it would ruin Rumpel though he already seems ruined by it to me, so to get her back and lose her again i think would make him completely lose it.
And i think the only way to go is for her to be killed. I don’t see how she fits in the story. I don’t think that Rumpel can live and the Queen can live and Belle can just be walking around free. I don’t see that as a choice, but who knows. And i don’t think that is no random reason, i think that is if the characters are who they are then that just doesn’t work out. They would have to change Rumpel though his character is very inconsistent already so who knows, but he would have to back off from the queen and let her do what she wants and i don’t see that happening right now.
I don’t know what this has to do with the supposed entirety of American television. I don’t get that comment, but whatever.
March 21, 2012 at 9:48 pm #139416mickeyParticipantYeah, you are right that Rumpel is already ruined. We’ve seen his story so far and we know that loads of bad things happened to him. The question is how many more can happen to one person. It’s getting old, I think, and unrealistic. How miserable can he get eventually.
Besides, I think that if any of the villains is about to be redeemed, it’s Rumpel. If none of the villains is about to be redeemed then what’s the point of the whole story. It’s supposed to be a fairy tale, right.
You’ve got a point with Belle. Her storyline is tricky and, as I said, would require some effort on the part of the writers to fit her. That’s why I’m inclined to believe they will take the easier road and kill her off.
As for American televison comment, it’s just an observation I made watching quite a few shows.March 21, 2012 at 10:38 pm #139417lissyParticipantI think that Belle will most likely be killed in the fight because that would give Rumpel a reason to go berserk
Rumpel is going to go completely berserk when he finds out Belle is alive in the first place! I have to disagree with a lot of people here… I think there are plenty of reasons why Belle should stay alive. She holds the power to break Rumpel’s curse. Regina could use Belle against Rumpel as a weakness. Not to mention, we hardly know her background. Belle is one of my favorite characters; she is a very complexed character that has the potential to play quite a large role within this show. It hurts my heart that people already want her killed off! I understand that people are saying this, not because they dislike her, but because it would make things more interesting. But personally, I think it would be too dark (Hasn’t Rumpel been through enough sorrow? He deserves a happy ending) plus I love Belle so I prefer her alive 😉
March 21, 2012 at 11:02 pm #139418mickeyParticipantI obviously don’t want her dead either. I love Belle’s character to death and the whole message that the Beauty and the Beast carries.
I mean Belle deserves a happy ending because of all the things her character stands for.
I’m just worried about what the writers might do with her. But they look smart, so maybe there’s a chance.
Let’s hope you are right about her future, not me.March 23, 2012 at 10:55 am #139516PheeParticipantI doubt these creators/writers would have cast the role of Belle like they did if they didn’t have a definite plan for the character to play a pivotal role. They knew Emilie from her days on Lost, so I’m guessing they wrote Belle with her in mind, so they have a plan and whatever it is, it’ll be good stuff, of this I’m sure.
I wouldn’t want to see her killed off. I’d like to see Rumple having to work at it to win back her love, which will ultimately be his redemption and her salvation.
March 23, 2012 at 11:45 am #139519hjbauParticipantI think they could have Rumpel work to win her back and then have her get killed somehow.
March 23, 2012 at 12:54 pm #139528killianhookfanParticipantI’m also so hoping that they don’t kill off Belle. Maybe this will be one of those circumstances where they see how much the fans love the Rumbelle storyline and decide to keep it somehow. I think it really depends on how they have decided they want the curse to be broken and whether they already have decided whether there is some other love interest involved with Rumple (please, oh please, not EQ/Regina).
But it sounded like they heard how much the fans liked the storyline and decided to bring Belle back for Season 2 so maybe there is hope. If so I think it will be one of those things that will be strung out over the life of the series and they won’t end up together until the very end of the show – which would be fine with me as long as they end up together. It would be interesting to see how they would deal with the two of them in Storybrooke together. I actually think it would be interesting to see Mr. Gold have to work to win her over since the big complaint about Skin Deep was how quickly they moved from not knowing each other to being in love. It would be cool to have Belle not know who she is and not have any reason to spend time with Mr. Gold so he would have to really work to get her to see who he really is deep down inside to get her to fall in love with him. Let’s face it – that process would probably take several seasons with the way Mr. Gold’s character is. But it would give him a chance to redeem himself for the mistake he made as Rumple when he threw her out but it would still allow him to maintain his same Mr. Gold personality in SB. Then maybe once she fell in love with Mr. Gold for he really was, maybe then she would remember her FTL life and would remember Rumple and would realize that she had just fallen in love with Rumple all over again – that way Mr. Gold would finally know that Belle truely does love him for HIM, regardless of whether he is Rumple or not. And Belle would realize that Rumple is the same person regardless of whether he is green with rotting teeth or not.
March 23, 2012 at 9:22 pm #139561hjbauParticipantIt actually seems like a split on the liking and not liking Rumpel and Belle. It seems like a lot of people dislike it and also a lot of people really like it. And i don’t think that Belle is going to have anything to do with breaking the curse. I just don’t see Belle becoming a regular to the cast. I think the character has barely been developed so far. She was just used as a device to develop Rumpel’s character and i think she will continue to be used in that way. Like i said i just don’t see her ever being a regular because she is not important to the plot at least not so far so unless they insert her into the plot in some way then i think just continuing to use her to grow Rumpel is what they are going to do and that the biggest way to see him grow a bit more would be to kill her.
Where did you hear that she will be back in Season 2?
March 24, 2012 at 2:22 am #139581midnight drearyParticipantActually, if you surf the entire fandom, you’ll find that Rumpel and Belle are EXTREMELY popular. Robert Carlyle even commented on it in a recent interview. He talks about the fan’s response towards the end of the video.

The only people who don’t seem to like it are those who ship Rumpel with Emma or those who never really liked Rumpel to begin with. It’s kind of difficult to estimate the level of popularity of certain characters with just one site.
