I can’t wait to see where the writers Belle’s her story in season 2. I was surprised to hear that she’ll be in season 2 because there were there were so many cynics who said that she was going to die in the finale. Thank all the gods in heaven they were wrong.
I think Belle and Rumpel will eventually have their happy ending. No one on the show has been able to truly separate themselves from their true love. They always find a way to see each other again. Even when one of them believes the other to be dead (Belle and Rumpel, Abigal and Frederick), they always end up meeting each other again in another life. Rumpel lost Belle in his previous life, but now he has a chance to be with her in this new life. Yes, they will have a ton of obsticals, but like I said before, no one can escape true love.
If Rumple’s happy ending is with Belle where does Bae fit into the equation? He did all of this for Bae and not Belle. He did not know she was alive until the last 15 minutes of the show. I think his happy ending originally did not involve Bae but Belle showing up changed things a bit. If it did come down to a choice between Bae or Belle and had to make only one choice who would it be??? As cruel as it maybe I believe Belle is expendable and he’d pick Bae over Belle, otherwise his whole master plan would have been for nothing.

Love for a child and romantic love are two different things and people are allowed to have both. And they do have both. I don’t get why people want to make it into some kind of competition between Belle and Bae about whom Rumple loves more.
And even if Bae is still a child when Rumple finds him, although I don’t think he is, he won’t be living with his father forever. As much as we love our children, at some point they start their own lives. So we shouldn’t make our lives revolve only around them. Well, maybe some people do it but I think it’s not healthy. There is room for another kind of love than the love for a child in our hearts and it’s perfectly fine. There is nothing wrong about that.May 16, 2012 at 3:31 pm #147064a_desperate_soulParticipantExactly. Mr. Gold loves Baelfire and Belle both. Parental love and romantic love are two completely different things and I’m not sure why he should be forced to choose between the two. Should Snow be forced to choose between Emma and Charming? No, of course not. Most people grow up to have a spouse and children. It’s perfectly reasonable to have both.
Besides, Baelfire and Belle shared the exact same goal: To rid Rumpel of the Dark One’s curse. So, why would he be forced to choose between the two of them when they’re both exactly the same? So, I’m not sure why loving Belle would destroy his master plan. Baelfire would want Mr. Gold to find love again. He’d want his father to find someone who makes him feel human again. Baelfire would be proud to know that someone still believed in him and wanted to help him. When all is said and done, Baelfire would probably thank Belle for not giving up on his father. He would thank Belle for picking up where he left off.
And I also don’t think Belle is “expendable.” So far, she’s been the only one who has been able to break Rumpel’s curse. We know that her kiss can do that. So, I doubt Mr. Gold would toss her aside. Especially now sense she’s back in his life again.
This whole Belle or Bae thing is getting creepy. 😯

Why should Mr. Gold be forced to choose? Most people don’t have to choose between their spouse and their child. Why can’t he have both? That’s what a happy ending means. Do you honestly think Rumpel can have a happy ending without the woman he loves? He needs them both. Having his son back in his life would be an absolute blessing. But having him without Belle would be bittersweet. It’s the same reason why he refused to cast the Dark Curse himself. He knew that in order to do it, he had to kill the thing he loved most, and sense Baelfire was missing at the time, that role was filled by Belle. But he wouldn’t stoop low enough to kill her. He’d just be creating another hole in his heart.
We clearly saw how haunted he was by the death of Belle in “Skin Deep.” So, living a life without her would not be considered a happy ending. He’d be living without his true love, and we’ve already seen the engative effects of living without someone’s true love can cause. Just ask Snow, Charming, Abigail, Frederick, and Regina. It’s almost like saying that you can have a happy ending even though your wife was savagely killed. No, you wouldn”t be able to because the death of your wife would haunt you until the day you die. So, Belle has to be a part of his happy ending, because she makes him happy. Simple.
I agree with A_Desperate_Soul, Baelfire would want his father to fall in love. Baelfire would probably view Belle as evidence that his father hadn’t completely given up on love. Belle is an example of the last remaining feelings of love and compassion that resides within Rumpel. Baelfire would be proud of that. He’d probably encourage it.
And I don’t view having Belle back in Mr. Gold’s life as a wrench in his plan. He probably views it as a bonus. He thought she had committed suicide after being mercilessly tortured by her father. He probably placed the majority of the blame on himself. So, to see her walk back into his life alive and well was a blessing. Her ghost haunted him for years, so he’s probably releaved to know that she’s been alive all this time.

What price do you think is going to be paid? Hasn’t always chosen power over the ones he loved? He chose not to go with bae into the portal for power and chose power over not having Belle release from the Dark Curse from true loves curse. Time and time again he has forsaken the ones he loved over power. Once again he is bringing magic to SB…why for power once again. Surprise! That is where I am getting this from. So why won’t his ultimate choice be as I have suggested. He has not really paid a price for all that he’s caused for the magic he has used. He’s certainly not going to be paying $200 for all of this trouble.
May 16, 2012 at 4:38 pm #147073midnight drearyParticipantSpeaking of all magic coming with a price, why haven’t any of the other characters paid a price? What about the fairies? They’re just as powerful as Rumpel and Regina. Possibly even more so. Especially the Blue Fairy. So, why haven’t they paid a price? If ALL magic comes with a price, then why haven’t they paid? Hmm…maybe the writers will show us their backstory in season 2.

Have we ever heard anyone besides Rumple and Regina say that all magic comes with a price? Because it could be that their magic, the “evil” or “dark” magic, always has to pay a price whereas the fairies who are supposed to be the “good” magic (all terms which are wholly subjective and I have my issue with that Blue Fairy…) never have to pay a price since their magic isn’t self interested?
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 16, 2012 at 8:29 pm #147084mickeyParticipantI think that when they say that all magic comes with a price, they refer to the people who use magic, even when they got it from someone else, to gain something for themselves. Like the people who made deals with Rumple had to pay that price.
Rumple is actually careful not to use magic for anything too serious. For example, he isn’t the one who enacted the curse, so the possible repercussions of that move didn’t affect him.
I’m not sure we can say that Rumple brought magic to SB. He rather brought it back to the land that had lost it due to the dark curse. Magic had been the natural element of this world before the curse. I’m not sure that’s the same thing and that there are going to be consequences. It can be treated as restoring the natural order of things. But I guess we will see.
The price for rejecting Bae and Belle, I think Rumple has already paid. He lost both of them to magic that he chose. He had to live without his son for centuries, and we still don’t know what had happened to him. He had to live for about 30 years believing that he indirectly caused Belle’s death. I’m not sure if paying the price has to involve losing someone permanently.May 17, 2012 at 1:23 am #147114eternalflameParticipantI think Rumpel has already paid his price. He lost Baelfire and he lost Belle. I think the fact that Belle has been brought back into his life is just pure luck. (Thanks Regina! 😆 ) His price has already been paid. The only difference is that Mr. Gold does not accept the price. He’s already been punished, but he’s fighting back against the punishment. Now, that would be an interesting idea to explore. What happends when you reject the price of magic? What happens when you don’t accept the punishment?
