But if Regina’s intention was never to use Belle against Rumpel, then why did she capture her in the first place? I like the theory that Belle wasn’t actually captured, but like Jefferson, being locked up would be her own personal curse. Regina went out of her way to pull Jefferson out of Wonderland and lock him in his mansion for 28 years. So, I’m not surprised that she would do the same to Belle. However, I’m not clear on why she would punish Belle. It makes no sense. What did Belle ever do to Regina?
But we don’t really know if she pulled him out of Wonderland specifically. He may have found a way back to the Enchanted Forest before the curse was enacted.
See, there is still so much we don’t know about the fairytale land stories. I was just thinking today that all I really care about now are the Storybrooke stories, but I’m rethinking that tonight. Between taking back the kingdom, Belle’s capture, Cora, and whatever happened to the Mad Hatter, we still have a lot to tell. Add in Sleeping Beauty and Mulan’s story and there really is much more to tell.
Good point. I just hope the writers don’t forget about the loose ends they created in season 1.

But unfortunately, there’s always a chance this will be the case. Show’s will large, ambitious plots tend to skip over what they consider minor details. Of course, their mistakes are all too obvious to the audience, but the writers tend to overlook it.

All magic comes with a price!
Keeper of FelixJuly 15, 2012 at 5:44 pm #151970midnight drearyParticipantHere’s another quote from Emilie!
Emilie: “Belle will likely not try to change Rumple, but bring out the lightness in him – the part only she seems to know exists within him. She is in love with him for his tortured soul and what she sees inside him. She will be perhaps less predicatable and a little darker: the effect of living with the darker character that is Rumple.”
July 15, 2012 at 5:48 pm #151971a chipped cupParticipantI love what she said about not trying to change Rumpel, but rather bring out the good side in him. I also really like the idea of their two personalities bleeding into each other. It’ll make for a very harmonious balance in their relationship. Light vs. Dark.
And I’m not even gonna lie, as a Rumbelle fangirl, this quote actually puts a lot of my prior worries at ease. Judging by the two previous quotes Emilie has given, it sounds like there won’t be as much drama or angst as previously expected. It actually sounds like they’ll both be on the same page.

I love this quote. I just posted it in the season 2 spoilers thread. I love that Belle and Rumpel will be on the same page in season 2. After everything that has happened to Belle, I’m not surprised that she’ll be a darker character in season 2. It makes sense for her character. It’ll add so much depth and complexiy to her character. I can’t wait to see how she copes with it in season 2.

Don’t worry. I don’t think Belle will ever become evil. But after spending 28 tears locked in a mental institution and being in love with Dark One, Belle will undoubtedly become a slightly different person than she was back in Fairytale land.
July 26, 2012 at 2:54 pm #152510thedarkoneParticipantYeah, I don’t think we’re going to seeing a truly evil Belle in season 2 either. It would go against everything she believes in. I do, however, think that she will be heavily influenced by the terrible experiences she’s been subjected to. Being locked up in a prison for 28 years and then being reunited with her true love, who is the Dark One after all, will make Belle a little darker than her usual self.

I agree. Belle will definitely have a lot of emotional issues to sort out. But evil? Probably not. But the way Emilie phrased the quote made me think that she may end up siding with Rumpel on some of his actions. Hmmm…I guess it all depends on what those actions are.
