SwanAchoo? You narrowly avoided surplanting SwanQueen with LaceySwan.
I know we want Belle back, but I was curious how Lacey would react to Hook.
Ugh, she’d just fan the flames between him and Rumple until someone got thrown overboard 🙄
[adrotate group="5"]May 12, 2013 at 3:34 am #193303jbfrancisParticipantI want to see Lacey go; “Hey, I remember you; Guy Who Shot Me.” *BANG* Because she would totally have stolen a gun from the pawn shop. And then we have further validation of Hook’s limp! 😈
Another Lacey story I was rooting for; as she now knows magic is real, why not let her know the whole truth and watch how she deals with it? She’s Lacey, but knows she’s really Belle, and then does she fight to get her own memories back or try to keep it from happening? It’s kind of the flip of Emma last season, she already believes; but she’s still cursed.
May 12, 2013 at 3:37 am #193306KebParticipantWell, believing that magic exists is probably easier than believing that every memory you have in your head save the very most recent is a fabrication–that your very identity is all lies. And Belle, having actually seen it moments after she lost her memories, was already primed to believe in a way that Emma was not–plus, pure/amnesiac Belle was not nearly so cynical ans skeptical as Emma.

😆 Or she could turn to Gold and borrow the cane-o-pane and just you know, let loose.

That would be very interesting. I could see her wondering about Belle and fighting not to be turned into her (just as much as Belle would never want to be Lacey).

“Cane-o-pane” is my new favorite phrase! Thank you!!! 😆

I love this idea too much. And it works for all of therm; if any of the cursed personalities knew the truth, would they want to become their old selves? It’s almost like learning you’re an alien. And I can see Lacey being jealous of Belle; Belle is who Gold really wants.
May 12, 2013 at 5:05 am #193316KebParticipantWe’ve never really seen how Gold feels about being both, and he’s been both in every post-curse scene we’ve had outside of 217. Jefferson hated it and felt it was driving him crazy, but Gold seemed to take it in stride when he was awoken by Emma’s name.
David used his Nolan self to tell him what he doesn’t want to be; while Snow uses the “we were cursed!” line for the things she did as MM that she’s not so happy about, she seems to have embraced her MM personality (and Storybrooke itself) a lot more than most of the other chars re their cursed selves. I think only Granny seems more into being her cursed side than her FTL side than MM pre-killing-Cora. Whale’s been dealing with it all by drinking, but I think part of it is that he still wants to help his brother and isn’t able to (yet). Ruby already had to deal with being a “both” once, but once she learned she could still control the wolf, she seems to embrace her FTL self far more than her Storybrooke side. The dwarves went back to being dwarves quite quickly (save poor Sneezy who has no choice). And Regina likes being Mayor but she was never actually cursed.
It’s hard to say for sure–it depends upon the individual character–what side a character would favor of himself. Gold, I think, actually likes being Gold over being Rumple, but he always hated certain parts of himself. Loathed. And he got special privileges with the curse, so his deal as Gold was sweet save for the loneliness and disdain from others that he was already used to. I think he also likes that the Gold part balances out some of the Dark One insanity–not all of it, obviously–and uses that to his advantage as much as he’s able.
So what will Belle truly think? I think she will, like David and Red, favor her FTL self, since she was far closer to achieving her own ideals in that world, as they were–she had proven herself brave and heroic and kind, all things she values. Whereas the characters who favor their Storybrooke selves were not as happy in FTL; Snow’s life was one big tragedy after another, thanks to Cora and later Regina’s constant targeting of her. She had moments of happiness with David, and she tried hard to live up to her ideals, but as she pointed out in 215, almost every decision she made led to more tragedy. The people she loved died, or lost loved ones, because she was involved. So it makes sense that she favors her MM self, who might have been meek and waffly and capable of bad decisions that hurt others, but at least wasn’t (knowingly) involved in a hopeless blood feud or three. MM was at least kind, and able to help her students in a way that Snow failed to help her people, putting MM actually closer to Snow’s ideals than Snow was able to be (due to circumstances rather than personality, of course). That might in part be why David calls her MM more often than Snow now.
Granny, likewise, seems to be living closer to her ideals as the owner of the most popular diner and inn in town. With the curse broken, her relationship with Ruby is no longer contentious, and that was the worst part of the curse for her; in FTL, she wasn’t able to be the Grandmother she wanted to be for Red, because of the lies she was living with. She couldn’t even sleep at night. But SB Granny is capable and relied upon by much of the town, and has rewarding work to do.
I can’t see Belle embracing most of Lacey’s traits even if they were always a (small) part of her. Lacey just doesn’t match her ideal self the way that she had already managed to become in FTL. So I think like others whose FTL selves were, or had become, close to their ideals, she will favor her Belle self. (thank goodness.)

I think it’ll comes as a consequence of Regina and Emma stopping the diamond from destroying Storybrooke. I’ve theorized that, since this is described as a failsafe to the Curse, its deactivation would bring an end to what remains of the Curse in Storybrooke, including the barrier of forgetfulness that surrounds the town limits, reverting the effect it had on Belle and Sneezy.
Yep, my money’s on this too.
