Hey y’all!I just finished watching Lost for the summer hiatus(three words:mind-blow-ing),and I couldn’t help notice several similarities between Ben and Rumple(both are my fav characters out of the two shows).I guess that’s no surprise seeing as K&E wrote for Lost before Once came on. π But let’s compare the two characters. What in your opinions makes them similar, and what is it that makes them different? Also,I couldn’t help but note the frequency with what Ben got beat up π π π Really there were precious few eps that didn’t have him beaten, shot at,pushed, shoved, pulled,or knocked out.I guess there’s one diff between Ben and Rumple:Everyone’s too afraid to even go near Rumple π π But that’s also a similarity between Hoo and Ben:both are continually pushed around π

August 9, 2013 at 1:46 pm #203921RumplesGirlKeymasterBen Linus was my favorite character as well and I fought anybody who tried to write him off as a cliche black-hat bad guy. And I think we all know how I feel about Rumple. The thing with LOST and OUAT is that they’ve made the “bad guys” incredibly complex. Ben comes off as a bad guy but then you learn about his tragic (very very tragic) past and that He was never that special to the point where Jacob didn’t even really know that he exited. Ben’s confrontation with Jacob at the statue and his “what about me?” speech broke my heart Good guys are expected to be good and that gets old because they set impossible standards–though OUAT and LOST both show how the good guys can also have darker hearts with Snow and Jack, respectively. In our age in TV we humanize the bad guys and make them the most relatable. Look at some of the most popular TV character currently: Rumple, Sherlock (a high functioning sociopath), Loki (from the Avengers movies), Tyrion Lanister from GoT (somewhat immoral but oh so smart), and the list goes on. All of them are somehow “damaged” and that’s how we relate to them.

βIf I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?β -- Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass

August 11, 2013 at 12:04 pm #204326jessieparadoxes of peopleParticipantAlthough both have to be the most frustrating characters on each show!!!You want so badly for Rumple to behave himself, and then off he goes to beat someone up in a parking lot. :O :O :O :'( Same with Ben.S06E07″Dr.Linus” had to be the most emotionally intense ep of the season(excluding the finale of course). My heart broke for him after that, and then in the season finale….BEN[to Smoke-Locke]:Did you say there were more people to kill?….. :O :O :O :O :O :O :O :O :O

Watched during it’s original run. Several rewatches since.
Yesterday was 8/15 = “815” lol!
Love all the LOST nods in OUAT!
Anyway, one big difference between Ben and Rumple –
Rumple has a confidence (that verges on cockiness at times) that Ben just didn’t have.
Ben was manipulative, but he never really was in charge.
I hated Ben at first, then he grew on me and I found myself rooting for him.
One of the saddest, most emotional scenes in the whole six seasons was with Keamey and Alex.
I really felt sorry for Ben.S3 is supposed to remind us of LOST’s S4.
So far, they are going to an Island/NL is an Island.
There are 6 of them on the Jolly Roger/Oceanic 6.October 26, 2013 at 2:42 pm #218863jessieparadoxes of peopleParticipantS3 is supposed to remind us of LOSTβs S4. So far, they are going to an Island/NL is an Island. There are 6 of them on the Jolly Roger/Oceanic 6.
