What do you like most about playing Robin Hood?
Lots of things. In terms of the character, it’s obviously a lot of fun to be able to play an iconic, kind of legendary character that’s generally pretty loved and kind of looked up to. On a personal level, it’s lovely because the people on the show are really, really nice and sweet and fun and it’s a great show that’s popular around the world, so there’s loads of things about it that I really am grateful to be on about.
Can you talk about Marian and Robin Hood’s relationship now that she’s back?
I can talk about as much as you’ve seen, which is that he was very much in love with his wife and the mother of his child and then she died, or at least as far as he knew, so he became a single father. I think it’s difficult for him because he had mourned the death of his wife and start to move on and put his life back together. Anyone who loses a loved one and they come back from the dead, that’s a bit of a shock and a lot to take on board. I think the character, Robin, finds himself in a really difficult situation because he’s fallen in love with somebody new, but he’s obviously still betrothed to his wife by his word and his honor and his code, so it’s a really tough rock and a hard place that he finds himself in.
Is there any hope for Robin Hood and Regina or is he very set in his decision?
I can’t say. I can’t give away any spoilers otherwise I get in a lot of trouble.
What do you think about the Robin Hood and Regina relationship?
If I was a fan of the show, I love it because they’re both very strong, commanding kind of characters. They both have a very dark and complex backstory. They both have a child that they love. There’s a lot of similarities between the two of them. They’re both very different, but there’s also a lot of things that bond them and bring them together. I love Lana as a friend, as an actress, working against her, she’s just amazing, so I really enjoy it.

In this Sunday’s episode, Will Scarlet is back. Can you talk about the Robin Hood and Will Scarlet dynamic?
If anybody saw the episode of Wonderland where we came together and then came apart, you’ll see that there’s history and there’s some issues between us, so potentially we may be dealing with those issues somewhere down the line.
What’s been your favorite episode to film?
One that we just shot recently that hasn’t aired yet. [He couldn’t say more.]
Do you know if they’re going to go into Robin Hood’s backstory at all?
Can’t say. I’m sorry, I want to. … I would say if you have a character like Robin Hood and obviously they’ve alluded to it, if I was a fan of the show, it would make one sort of assume that potentially at some point they may do that.
Are you working on any other projects?
I can talk about a movie I just had come out the other day on iTunes, it’s a film called Songs for Amy, which just came out on iTunes October 1. And I’m also in the new Forza Horizon video game, which is a driving game and I play the main character that you end up having to race against and stuff like that. And I also have the soundtrack for the album of the film that just came out a couple of weeks ago as well, but right now my future calendar for as far as I can say is just on Once.
