If bae would have trusted his father and gotten the hec out of never land with Henry and his father and not asked about the prophecy could this whole new never land have been prevented? Rumple told him that the only way to save Henry is to die, and Neal said maybe there’s another way, so of course Rumpel took it, cause no one wants to die and if there’s another way he was happy. So they did bae’s idea and actually had a real chance, until Neal abandoned his father in the middle of no where.
at the end Rumpel said no loopholes I felt so bad because he’s been given loopholes ideas the whole Time (from Regina, Emma, and the black fairy’s wand and magic blocking cuff) etc. until he realized that there’s no winning this way.
the only time ever that pan did not come out on top was when Bae tricked him with squid ink. And that’s when Bae really acted like an idiot and left his father to get captured again.
even Peter Pan said to him “your father could have protected you here” when he captured him.

If anyone should hold blame, it’s Regina for taking PanHenry to her vault where she keeps her magic and where Pan found the curse. But even then, Regina isn’t really to blame. The prophesy couldn’t be avoided, if it didn’t happen one way, it would’ve happened another. Rumple was going to have his undoing.
All magic comes with a price!
Keeper of FelixDecember 20, 2013 at 4:10 pm #232688RumplesGirlKeymasterRumple’s redemption meant sacrifice and death (though he’s not really dead). Any other path taken by Rumple or Neal would have short changed that redemption arc. Had they kept dancing around the prophecy, the universe would have course corrected to ensure that SOMEHOW Rumple went to his sacrifice. His sacrifice is his redemption. It’s horrible but he’s coming back and he has been redeemed.

He isn’t? We know this for sure. Where’s this confirmation?
I also think the prophecy was unavoidable. It’s fate.

Well no explicit confirmation like “nope not dead!” from A and E but they did say that Rumbelle would be in the same world for an extended period of time working on their relationship which pretty much implies alive-ness

I have two competing headcanons: Oz or Hades. I like either situation, though Hades is winning.

Rumple is fully responsible for the state of his relationship with Bae. Neal s distrusts Rumple for good reason. It is only in his final act that Rumple has gained back some of ttrust he wasted between him and his son.
Keeper of Hook and Emma's smoldering first kiss, a certain Pirate's sauciness, the Evil Queen's snarkiness, Grumpy's gruffness and a drop of true love to make it all go down smooth.

this is no proof. they said they’ll explore their relationship “in whatever state that is” which can easily be a mourning Belle and a dead Rumpelstiltskin could also be memories of happier times in the past, or flashbacks, or even a vision!Rumpel just like the Vision!Belle from neverland…
Back to Baelfire: I don’t think he was a very appreciative son. I get why he would be afraid of “the dark one” that suddenly overtook his dear father, but now that he is an adult shouldn’t he stop and think WHY his father became the DO and what a great sacrifice this was – to lay down his soul for his son to be safe? Me thinks the becoming a DO is a far greater sacrifice than the death in the end. I like that they connected the two and that the DO dagger had to be used for the one sacrifice that Bae DID appreciate. but when you think back, Rumpelstiltskin sacrificed everything for his son:
Image – he was branded the town coward because he wanted to be alive to take care of his son and not let him grow up unprotected (we, the audience did not know it then, but PP was after his descendants and no child of Rumpel would be safe)
dignity – he wouldn’t swordfight with a pirate over his beloved wife because he wasn’t good at swordfighting and didn’t want his son to be orphaned from both father and mother
soul – became the Dark One
love – he could have stayed with Belle and started a family with her – his true love, but he sacrificed that happiness so that he could keep working on that curse which will bring him his son back and ensure he has a chance at happiness despite pan and then again and again he chose Bae over Belle
he lived in darkness and isolation because he knew that Bae was in isolation in neverland, suffering, and he suffered along with him, didn’t give himself a break.
now how does Bae repay him? tells him to get out of his apartment and then (only because of Emma) gives him three minutes to talk. if anyone would watch this episode again (manhattan) they will bawl in pain I bet. then in neverland he sets everyone against him.
now that he died for him, I hope Bae will at least have more respect for his father when speaking about him with robin hood or mulan
