I just listened to the podcast and had an idea. Another of my theories that just pop up, has a lot of holes and is probably not going to happen, alas, here it is:
We do know that Ruby has hightened senses in SB (the hearing), but we can only speculate if she transforms into the wolf. What have we leaned about wolves in SB:
1. There aren’t any wolfs in SB.
2. Emma does drive into a sign because she sees one on the road in the Pilot.
3. Graham’s “guide” wolf has a red eye and is seen not only by Graham, but by Emma as well.
4. The wolf Emma almost runs over has two “normal” eyes.Maybe it’s supposed to be the same wolf and they just didn’t think of the red eye until The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, but maybe it isn’t. Could that wolf have been Ruby? I don’t remmeber if we ever saw a full moon in the Pilot, but for arguments sake let’s say it was. I’m pressuming this, because someone (Graham? Henry?) stated that there were no wolves in SB. Then again, the wolf didn’t attack Emma, it seemed pretty clueless, just standing in the middle of the road … What we got from Red’s wolf form is that she attacks everyone she meets (She could have mastered it by the time the curse was enacted.).
Öhm, yeah. That’s it. Probably not an issue, but I couldn’t get it out of my mind. (Riddleraven, you’re not the only one! 😉 )

I think it’s possible that werewolves could still exist in SB. Firstly, Granny’s scar still aches during a full-moon, and secondly, Red still has amazing canine tracking abilities. Perhaps by constantly wearing red, Ruby is able to prevent turning into a werewolf (or as mia suggested, Red had mastered not turning into her wolf form before coming to SB). I may be wrong about this, but it has left me wondering, too.
It was Mr. Gold who told Graham there are no wolves in SB (“at least not the literal kind”) in episode 7 The Heart is a Lonely Hunter. Perhaps this was Mr. Gold’s way of hinting that there are werewolves in SB. It also makes me think that Graham’s wolf guide may be more than your average wolf. Also, in that dialog in which Sheriff Graham comes across Mr. Gold doing a “spot of gardening” in the woods, there is reason to believe that Mr. Gold knows far more about werewolves than we’d have thought before episode 15.
Mr. Gold: Good morning, Sheriff. Sorry if I startled you.
Graham: Right. Sorry, I thought you were a wolf.
Mr. Gold: Did I forget to shave? [smile]
Graham: What are you doing out here so early?
Mr. Gold: A spot of gardening. Yourself?
Graham: I was looking for a …
Mr. Gold: A wolf. I think I’m starting to catch on. To the best of my knowledge, there are no wolves in Storybrooke, not the literal kind anyway. Why are you looking?
Graham: You’ll think I’m crazy.
Mr. Gold: Try me.
Graham: I saw one in my dreams and then I saw one for real just a few hours ago. Did you see anything unusual out there?
Mr. Gold. I’m afraid not. I do wish I could be more helpful. You know, Sheriff, they say that dreams, dreams are memories of another life.
Graham: What do you believe?
Mr. Gold: I never rule out anything. Also, I think the wolf we saw in the pilot in the middle of the road wasn’t clueless. I think it was preventing Emma from leaving, because it knows who Emma is. I also think that it was the same as Graham’s wolf guide but that the special effects team just forgot to add a reddish hue to on the eyes. It was the same color in both the pilot and episode 7. I don’t think that it was Ruby, because in ep. 15, Red’s wolf form was black.
The wolf form the pilot episode kept Emma from leaving:
Graham’s wolf guide from episode 7.
Red’s wolf form in episode 15:
"That’s how you know you’ve really got a home. When you leave it, there’s this feeling that you can’t shake. You just miss it." Neal Cassidy

I still think the wolf looks clueless (as clueless as a wolf can look), but you’re probably right and it’s what I also thought. 😉
Wow, Red is really scary. 😯 Didn’t see it that much while watching the episode.March 16, 2012 at 2:36 am #138925hjbauParticipantThat is a great shot of Red’s wolf. She is pretty scary looking.
March 16, 2012 at 7:51 am #138936fairytaleprincessParticipantI don’t think Ruby can transform into a ware wolf in StoryBrooke, or a regular wolf. We know that her scenes are heightened but surely others would start to notice a wolf (Ruby) at night. Mary Msrgret seems to be out almost every night as well as David. If Ruby is able to transform I doubt we will see it for a while.
March 16, 2012 at 12:12 pm #138949hjbauParticipantI think maybe Ruby can’t transform into a wolf now, but maybe later on that will happen at some point. I like the idea that her hair or her red outfits are somehow a transfer of the protection of her cloak from the fairytale land.
March 16, 2012 at 12:43 pm #138955miaParticipantYou know, what I didn’t quite understand was, if Red only transformed during a full moon or during other specific times. If it was during a full moon, why didn’t Granny just make wear the red cloak during that time? Red didn’t have to wear it the other days if there was no chance of her transforming. Maybe it was not to make her suspicious? She is rather sharp.
March 16, 2012 at 6:34 pm #138982hjbauParticipantGranny should have told Red about the cloak. There was nothing else to do, but that. And if Red had only killed sheep by that moment while it might be a bit much to take in Granny still should have told her.
March 16, 2012 at 6:49 pm #138986miaParticipantYes, but my question is why Red wore the cloak all the time (ok, she didn’t as Granny says). Granny makes her wear it all the time, not just wolf’s time. If Red only transformed during a specific time, why make her wear it all the time? Wouldn’t it have been more effective if she made her wear it only when needed? Maybe then Red would’ve worn it and not disobeyed.
March 16, 2012 at 7:40 pm #138987hjbauParticipantYeah i don’t know. Maybe she did only make her wear it during wolf’s time.
