I have always been against the Hook’s backstory in Good Form. I opposed giving him a brother and outlined my other objections in the episode thread. Having said that, I found this fanfic that focuses on Liam and Hook’s childhoods and coming of age. Here is the link: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/9939539/6/Hey-Brother
the author has given thought into providing insight into their future behaviour.
As for Hook’s obsessive nature and seeming sudden change, I agree that Hook has single minded focus and that has probably helped him survive, but I also think he has been looking to bring more meaning into his life. Unlike Regina or Rumple, Hook hasn’t had anyone until Emma in the season two finale, who is willing to give him a chance to be more than a villain. Even with Emma, she betrayed him at the top of the beanstalk, forcing him to continue to work with Cora. She didn’t give him ad chance to prove himself. Before that Bae rejected his pleas to be a family and his pledge to change for Bae. Bae threw that all into Hook’s face and I understand why. Both Bae’s parents failed him and were unwilling to change for him, so why would he think a pirate of all things would change for him. Bae was probably angry that his mother chose Hook over him. Bottom line for Hook, it left him nothing but his revenge. To me this shows me that Hook was ready to change back then if given a chance. i suspect that Pan kept Hook for moving on as well. I wonder if the nature of Neverland hard been different if Hook would have been able on move on. In addition, I think that hook (again unlike Rumple and Regina) limited the collateral damage of his acts, which to me shows that he was completely blinded by vengeance (cough Regina cough). I don’t hold Hook accountable for Cora’s acts any more than I would hold Belle accountable for eerything Rumple did while they were together. I don’t blame Hook for Tamara and Greg’s acts. Once he knew they were up to, he went to the Charmings to stop them. Just like he turned on Regina when she said she was going to kill everyone in StoryBrooke. He stopped from doing so by teaming with Greg and Tamara.

January 12, 2014 at 10:17 am #236585TheWatcherParticipantI’m having an interesting reaction to Hook. I usually enjoy watching the antics of villains, and have a good bit of respect for well-planned ruthlessness. Hook is such an indiscriminate bully for the pure sake of being a bully that I’m liking him the least out of Rumple, Regina, Cora and George. Not to say he’s worse than the other four, but I just find him less enjoyable of a villan. It’s…interesting. I’m not sure if this what the writers are going for, or if the character is just not working for me.
Well personally, I’ve never seen Hook as a real villain. Sure, he’s dark and snarky and a friggin pirate but for the majority of the show he’s been trying to avenge his lovers death which most consider noble and then he lets that grudge go and moves on to become a wee bit more heroic. I think if you look at him as a villain, you don’t have much to look at. He’s not even really fully a hero yet. I see hook as a neutral figure who will do what he must.

How is Hook able to go from one place to another without paying a price is it because of the JR and he uses it like a shield or have I just forgotten an already known explanation. I WOULD LIKE TO ADD This has nothing to do with why Hook was sent for Emma because he evaded the first curse (I think) and I’m wondering how because he came to SB later unless he ””did a Bae”” and lived somewhere else and then realised the curse was broken and went back home which back then was SB as everyone was mostly there.

The Jolly Roger is made from Enchanted wood.

I think I know what you’re asking, but when the curse came, they all went back to the Enchanted Forest. It took Hook too. The only people who didn’t go were Emma and Henry, and Emma losing her memory was the price for her going with Henry.
How he got back to our world, that’s the BIG question and also why, it was him and not Neal.

It’s enchanted but it still needs something else to travel.
Example: 1) moved from the EF to NL in 204 by BEAN
2) moved from SB to NL in 222 by BEAN
3)Moved from the EF to NL in 305 by Pegasus Sail (rolls eyes)
3) Moved from NL to SB in 309 by Shadow-Coconut-Overly-Stupid-Plot-Device
The only time it didn’t need help was when it traveled within the same world
1) From SB to NYC via NOTHING
2)From NYC to SB via NOTHING
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"January 19, 2014 at 7:41 pm #238550Hook’s GirlParticipantWe haven’t seen how Hook got from NL to EF yet. My guess was by pixie dust. Maybe there isn’t a price when it comes to using magic portal devises. Or maybe the price of magic was more subtle like the events that happened to him after arriving. When Emma, Snow, Neal, Jefferson, Rumple & Regina traveled between worlds there didn’t seem to be an obvious price either now that I’m thinking about it.

you mean in 305? He took the Pegasus Sail back. Then Liam dies and they burn it.

I think Hook’s Girl means how did Hook get back after being stuck in Neverland the first time. Pan let him go, possibly by providing a portal of some sort.

PoM is right. I meant right before the curse when he came from NL and somehow heard about Belle and met Regina, then Cora. Sorry I should have been more specific.
