Agreed…if he just turns around and finds a new one, that kinda ruins the purpose of most of the stories and his whole revenge deal….don’t think it’s gonna happen.
Actually, I take a different spin. His quest for revenge will bring him nothing. Revenge is foolhardy, and produces nothing but misery and emptiness. That’s what I hope Hook learns….in addition to finding something worth living for. There needs to be a positive result to the story, or that’s the point where it’s all in vain.

I don’t think that Milah was Hook’s true love, and I think that the directors wanted us to think that she wasn’t because not once did they show any affection between Hook and Milah. The only signs that showed us that Hook and Milah loved each other was when Milah was dying and told him that she loved him, and also when Hook told Milah to run.
I think that Milah just opened Hook up to the possibility of love-because before (and I’m just assuming from how he behaved) he was just a ‘ladies man’ who never once thought about love and settling down. He just wanted to travel the seas and go on adventures and make the most out of life. And he just happened to find a woman who wanted the same thing. Now, as for Hook’s revenge… I believe that the only reason he wanted revenge was so he could live for something. Because remember, Hook doesn’t approve of cowardice (which he told Rumple 2×04). It’s pretty obvious that Hook’s pain and misery has blinded him, and as much as he wanted that to end he couldn’t because that would be considered (to him) a cowardly act.
So Hook’s revenge was more of a death wish. If he was really into the revenge, he would have planned everything perfectly as Regina or Rumple or Cora did when they wanted to achieve something. Instead he just made it up as he went along -which didn’t work out for him.
Also when Hook encourages Rumple to kill him so he could be “reunited with Milah”, really just shows how much pain he is in, and it is in that moment that he realised that he couldn’t live anymore. So this brings me to Emma (and in case you haven’t noticed from my username, I ship Hook and Emma 😀 ). They are, as Jennifer Morrison stated “kindred spirits” which I fully agree with. Hook is broken, Emma is broken. However whenever they are around each other, or if their names are mentioned, they immeditaely light up, and they become a different person.
Heres an example: In ‘The Outsider’ when Hook shot Belle, Hook’s revenge had taken over and he couldn’t have been more livid with Rumple. However, in the beginning of ‘In the Name of the Brother’ when Emma went to Hook on the ground, Hook immediately changed. He began smiling his genuine smile (which I haden’t seen in the last 2 eps), and he starts laughing with her. Also, in case you hadn’t noticed he held her hand when she touched his chest. This all shows that he is finally showing other emotions since he came to SB- which is a good thing 😀
So since they are so alike and equally broken, they can relate to one another and help to fix each other. True love is hard to achieve in this show, and it is something that takes time. It is something that has to be fought for. So Captain Swan will take time but I think it will be amazing to watch them grow together 😀
Also- this is off topic. But I have noticed (and I’m sure many of you have too) whenever Hook and Emma interact, or Hook is mentioned in front of Emma and Snow is around, the camera always goes to her. And she always has a look on her face, like she is thinking ‘uh oh thats the same look me and Charming gave each other’. I think she knows that something is going on between them, but she doesn’t want to get in the way of Emma’s happiness. I think that Ginnifer plays that look very well, hats off to her 😀
Just to make it clear, I am not putting down any other ‘ships’. I’m just giving my opinion.
Sorry that this post is long. It’s my first post and I had a lot of feelings to get out. 😉 And I wanted to make sure I explained myself well.

Yes, I think that’s part of the reason he seems to be written so inconsistently to me. I mean he works as a brooding pirate out for revenge on Rumple because his main purpose on the show has been to avenge Milah’s death, but he doesn’t work so much for me as a Jack Sparrow character who tries to charm all the ladies but gets shut down all the time.
So I believe the former when he is in that mode, but then when they try to write him in his other mode, doesn’t fit with Milah being the love of his life. I do believe that she is though because otherwise he wouldn’t have spent so long trying to avenge her, and his sole reason for being on the show since they’ve made him so one dimensional. At least with Rumple who has been on a quest to find his son since the start of the show and with Regina who had a similar arc most of last season in trying to get revenge on Snow, they weren’t written so one dimensionally, imo.
January 21, 2013 at 2:34 pm #169398thebeeParticipantHook loved Milah, but his *true* love? Maybe. She’s gone though, and who’s to say Emma (or someone else) can’t be a new *true* love for Hook? For his story to be all about being stuck on Milah, getting revenge, and all of the miserable, dark and depressing events surrounding it all, there’d be no depth to the story if he can’t get over Milah and his quest for revenge. That’s just too shallow, too limited, and just throws every chance for more and better stuff in the trash. It’d be like a story that nobody finished writing. The show has better writers than that. They write for ABC for a reason. Because they’re good! I have more faith in them, than to think they’d make that mistake.

I agree in a way, maybe she does help him redeem but a second true love, I don’t think so. I think the writers have already many times hinted Hook is just for fun, there won’t be any romance going on between them.
January 22, 2013 at 6:51 pm #169611jasperannParticipantI will always hold out hope for Hook and Emma. Because I enjoy seeing a ‘bad boy’ ‘trying’ to do better. Kinda like Spike on Buffy. He was so evil when he came on and he only had revenge on his mind. He had his ‘true love’ Drusilla and he really loved her, but she died. Then he ended up falling in love with Buffy and trying to change for her, which didn’t always work out well for him. 😆 I can remember tons of people hating on him and NEVER thinking he would be with Buffy. Jane Espenson was a writer for Buffy too, so I always have hope! That and the creators of the whole series gave me Pacey and Joey when I was a teen!! They too like the bad boys. 😆
I don’t see Hook as a one dimensional character. I think he has tons of depth. I can understand where he is coming from. Can he be a bully? Sure. But you need to think what Milah said about her husband to him, I’m sure it wasn’t that good. Being a coward in that time/place made you an outcast I don’t think that Hook was acting any differently than Rumple would have been treated by anyone else. I actually applaud him for offering to fight for her, he gave Rumple a chance to get his wife back. If you think about it, even now, if someone were to leave their husband and/or kids the new guy isn’t just going to step aside, especially if the guys wife left him. I think that Milah leaving Rumple the way she did says more about her than it does Hook. Because Hook was just a way out, she would have done it eventually even with out Hook’s help. I guess I just don’t understand all the hate I see posted about his character. He’s a pirate, he is suppose to be crass and cocky… and confidant. I just love his character even with all the flaws. Even with him doing evil things.
I always like the bad guys, which is probably why I like the Queen, Cora, and Rumple too. 😆 My hubby says I’m wired differently.

A search on tumblr for either hook x ariel, ariel x hook, or hookriel will turn up a ton of fan fiction and fan art. Though personally i would’ve preferred seahook, or anchor or something as a name 😛
good site for fan fiction about all once upon a time (captainswan, snowing etc.)

I might have to have a peek and see what folks are saying about them. Thanks for the tip!
PS. How about FishHook. 😆
March 14, 2013 at 9:17 am #179842MysteryKat25ParticipantHmm, and here I thought people would riot if we didn’t get Eric in there somewhere!
I still firmly believe that Ariel somehow connects to Neverland so they could have some connection and maybe a past but I’d be shocked if we didn’t get Eric in some form or another (he could be similar to Hook…maybe Ariel has a type?).
I love that we’re shipping characters we haven’t even seen yet haha, wonder what they’ll be like once we actually see some interaction!
In the meantime I still vote CaptainSwan but as long Hook gets an awesome relationship I’ll be happy (though I still love the Princess Bride / Tangled parallels we get with CaptainSwan – not to mention Snowing).
