For episode #218 of Once Upon a Time, a guest role (preferably with an Asian accent) is being cast: The Healer. He’s 60, mystical, powerful, helpful to those in trouble, and makes predictions that can be difficult to understand.
Since there aren’t many Asians on this show, I'm 100% sure that this will be Mulan's backstory. It has to be.
Perhaps he will be a zen master who teaches Mulan martial arts. Perhaps he is the one who gave her her enchanted sword, whose blade was strong enough to cut through a magic beanstalk and refined enough to grind poppy seeds into a sleeping powder.

I hope not…while I wasn’t a fan of the Aurora/Mulan storyline I don’t mind them wrapping it up in present day FTL but I don’t want them to give the shaft to the main storyline by hogging the whole episode with their backstory as well.

I think the Healer will wind up being the Emporer of China, I could see him taking Mulan under his wing after she saves China and having some kind of prophecy about the curse and her role in it and give her the sword at the time because he somehow saw it would be needed. Maybe his gift of foresight was why he was emporer

January 30, 2013 at 3:35 am #170616RumplesGirlKeymasterI was fine with Mulan (Aurora annoyed me up until the very last time we saw her, then she was ok) but I really thought their story wouldn’t be revisited until season 3. There’s so much packed into this last half of the season: Rumple/Bae; Rumple/Belle; Emma/Nealfire; Hook/Regina/Cora; Cora/Rumple; The Town/Axis of Evil; Greg Mendell and now FTL of the present??

Yes, I agree.
On one hand, I was disappointed that Aurora and Mulan just got left behind so easily after all the time spent with their characters and all the hype over the summer about those them being on the show. On the other hand, I felt like the present day FTL story line didn’t really go anywhere except to introduce Cora and Hook as the new villains and could have been resolved much quicker.
Unless there’s something big this season with the Wraith and/or the Room of Fire, then I’d rather they just save Aurora’s and Mulan’s back stories until next season because just going by the spoilers surrounding episodes 13-17, it still feels like there’s a lot of ground to cover, and not many episodes left to do that in.
January 30, 2013 at 10:57 am #170648SlurpeezParticipantHere’s a spoiler about this ‘mystical healer” that might be connected to reconnecting Philip with his soul:
Question: I’m loving Once Upon a Time this season, but will we ever see Sidney Glass (Giancarlo Esposito) again? He’s been locked in that underground cell for months! —Dan R.
Ausiello: The man you seeketh — Esposito, not Glass — is a wee bit busy these days as a series regular on Revolution. (Don’t feel too embarrassed for forgetting — NBC’s blackout hit has been hibernating since Nov. 26 and won’t return till March.) I do, however, have some consolation Once scoop for you. Producers are casting a role enigmatically known as The Healer. He’s described as being an Asian male in his late 50s or 60s, a powerful and revered figure known for helping folks in terrible trouble. As you might expect from this mystical type of character, he’s known to fancy a flowery turn of phrase, and doleth out cryptic descriptions does he. (See what I did there?) Deep down, though, The Healer is deeply moral, he knows right from wrong and understands that his great powers come with great responsibilities. Now we’ll just have to see if one of those responsibilities will be helping Mulan revive the cursed Phillip when this healer pops up in Episode 18.

http://tvline.com/2013/01/29/the-walking-dead-season-3-spoilers-ask-ausiello/2/lol Why am I thinking Yoda? Wonder if this means they are having both flashbacks and present day FTL or if the healer is in present day FTL.
January 30, 2013 at 6:18 pm #170751PheeParticipantWe dunno how much info the writer of that article has, and whether they’re basing their mention of Phillip on any inside info. But I could see this Healer being someone Mulan has known her whole life. They sound like the type of person who would be holed up in a temple of some description somewhere. As such, they may have been protected from the curse, even if they were outside Cora’s bubble. If this is someone who Mulan knew and trusted, then it’d make sense to go see them with Aurora, in the hope that they’d know something about saving Phillip. I mean, all Aurora and Mulan know is that apparently it can be done, but they have no idea how. They’ve gotta start the search for info somewhere. So we could see this Healer in present day FTL scenes, introduced as someone from Mulan’s past, and then we could see them again in a later ep if they don’t plan to tackle all of Mulan’s backstory this time around.
