Charming/Rapunzel question…Help

When Rapunzel was reunited with her parents where were they? Why were they gathered and dressed up ? If it was a ball presenting Rapunzel why did Snow ask Charming “why were you in the woods all night. ” Had they already planned a special event and Charming just happened to show up with Rapunzel ? Did I miss something from a previous episode or is this part of the year of no memories?

Rapunzel’s parents showing up was plot convenience. The party thing was a plot device. Literally, there is no reason why there would be a party.
