KeymasterEven though Arthur is playing Charming, there was a real sense of commonality between the two Kings. What did you make of their adventure together? Can they really be friends, even after Arthur’s misdeeds come to light?
Are we looking at OUAT’s next great Bromance?

ModeratorArthur admitted to Guinevere that he does genuinely think Charming is a good man. They clearly did bond during their little adventure. It’s just that Arthur is overly paranoid about protecting his kingdom.

ParticipantI hope not. I hope Arthur gets a sword to the heart. Don’t like him. It’s taking too long to reveal what his deal is or what he is after or whatever. And I hate that with villains. So, what? He wants to make SB the new Camelot? WHY? did I miss something? Usually we have a basic idea of what the villains are doing by now. I just feel really agitated v_v get to the point OUAT.

ParticipantThe bond was neat and you can tell it was authentic despite Arthur’s shadiness….however, why would you make David a Knight of the Round Table when you know he has to leave?

Well maybe the knights don’t take up permanent residence in Camelot anyway, just in dire times of need or something? Arthur did say most of the knights are princes in “other realms” or something. Maybe David can be a knight and still not have to stay forever.

ParticipantAfter all, it has been revealed in both timelines that the king is not as noble as he may seem, having pinched the crimson toadstool from Charming during a Camelot quest and now pulling the wool over the Storybrookers’ eyes, even if it means sacrificing the occasional pawn along the way. “It’s a tricky one,” Kitsis noted, “because you can tell that Arthur and Charming would be best friends in another world. But Arthur is doing what he thinks is best for his kingdom, and Charming has to do what’s best for his family, and that’s going to put them at odds.” Added Horowitz, “Arthur isn’t a villain in the pure sense of villains that we’ve had before. What we saw is what we’ll continue to see — a man who’s really conflicted and is driven by doing what he thinks is right, and what he thinks is his destiny.”

KeymasterI really liked the friendship between the two, especially in the moment after the water zombie (what WAS that ??!) attack. The show actually gave Charming some much needed color with his very introspective line, “I don’t want to only be remembered as the man who kissed a sleeping princess awake thirty years ago.”
It might be one of his more complex sentiments and really added something to Charming, a character who is often dangerously one note.

ParticipantOkay, so Arthur gave David the “Siege Perilous” (perilous seat). In Arthurian legend Merlin reserved it for the knight who would one day find the holy grail. Malory has Sir Galahad in the seat (older versions have Perceval sitting there) but according to legend it’s fatal to anyone else who is unworthy and sits there. Now, are writers going with legend and having this as foretelling that Charming is in mortal peril?
They really aren’t going to go into the whole holy grail myth because it is a religious tale. I can’t see Charming going in search of the cup of Christ. We do have a savior figure, though, and objects. Will Charming be the one to unite Excalibur? Erase Emma’s name from the daggar?
I don’t know why I’m postulating because they write this show by adhering to the Mad Libs school of writing. *sigh*

ParticipantIt’s too bad that Arthur is a little word-I-can’t-say-on-this-forum, because if he were genuine, they could have a really great friendship. I liked them bonding over peasant origins, and wife talk, it was nice to see Charming have someone he could really relate to, it made him a lot more interesting than he usually is.

Arthur did say that many of the Knights of the Round Table were princes or kings in their own realms – suggesting that KOTRT isn’t a standing order, but something that only meets at moments of greatest need. So in that context it seems totally legit to make Prince Charming, who is King or Prince Consort of whatever Snow’s kingdom is in the EF, a member of their Order. Think of it as being a Knight Templar or something – doesn’t require you to up and move to Camelot, just to be acknowledged as a KOTRT.
As an aside, every time they show the Round Table or talk about the Knights, I can’t stop singing Monty Python songs in my head.
On second thought, let’s not go to Camelot. It’s a rather silly place.
