Here is my theory:
Greg and Tamara are true believers. But of what?
Theory they are members of an organization headed by Frollo (from the the Hunchback of Notre Dame).
Evidence (not very strong but hear me out):
Tamara wants to cleanse the world of unholy magic. **The only Disney villain connected with the church is Frollo. The wiki page on Frollo says, “Frollo hates gypsies, seeing them as “impure commoners”, and wants nothing more than to wipe them out of Paris.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claude_FrolloThere are other things that led me to this but its not at my fingertips.
I think whoever is the leader of this unholy magic riddance group is someone from one of these classic stories. They never mention religion. I think its someone who can “checkmate” regina and gold using science. Frollo may not be the scientist but he can be the creator and driving force behind this movement with non magical followers.
What do you think?!

Nothing is impossible on this show, but I think they would have to find someway to explain the fact that Frollo was still alive decades later. Hunchback, of course was a book long before it was a film, written in 1831, so before Peter Pan and Wendy even. Like Wendy, Frollo belongs to a certain time and location (Paris), so we’d have to explain how he is connected to the stories we have now.
But yes the religious elements in Tamara and Greg’s convictions are interesting."He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 10, 2013 at 2:46 am #192676MysteryKat25ParticipantI’ll have to add that to my list to watch! I missed a few years when they didn’t seem as good as the ones that were out when I was a kid.
I know enough to remember thinking that the gypsy Regina killed in her training session looked a lot like Esmerelda, but I figured that someday the actual Esmerelda would show up and have a grudge because Regina killed her ___ insert relation here, family, friend, whatever she was way back when (cause otherwise that seems really random to bring her in for that scene and make her look obviously like a gypsy unless that’s the only nod they ever meant to include – or if it’s long after Esmerelda’s story which…I don’t know yet!)

But yes the religious elements in Tamara and Greg’s convictions are interesting.I don’t think when the book was written would be an issue since in Once, the Snow White story only happened 30 years ago when in reality it’s been around long before then. They could do a FTL version of Paris like they did an FTL version of China for Mulan.
With Frollo, they could go several routes. For example, if the Home Office has been around for a long time, say involved in the Salem Wich Trials, then Frollo could be a modern day relative of one of the original founders of the Home Office and would see it as his duty to continue the fight against magic. Perhaps Quasimodo is someone from another land that Frollo is keeping as a test subject or something or as propaganda to recruit followers, kind of “Look what magic did to this poor boy” when in reality Frollo thinks Quasimodo is a “foul creature”.
Quasimodo would ba a good character to add because he isn’t the perfect fairytale prince. I could see him becoming obsessed with one of the Once ladies, perhaps Belle, Emma, Regina or Snow, because they were kind to him. Snow would be a good one because she wants to fix her dark heart and she’d think helping Quasimodo would do that. Charming would then be concerned about the crazy stalker guy being near Snow whilst everyone else would think he’s just being a jealous husband. Cue Charming turning to Rumple for advice.

That’s a really good point. Many of us have speculated that the London we saw isn’t the real London but Fictional London, so they could do a Fictional Paris too. Or maybe it’s just a fictional Europe!

In Lady of the Lake, Ruth says that the talisman she gives to Snow (the one that shows the gender of children) was made by a gypsy.
I really need to watch Hunchback to get more of the not-so-obvious references but I like the ideas. Keep ’em coming!

May 11, 2013 at 4:27 pm #193200RumplesGirlKeymasterIf Wendy did found the Home Office (which seems to be one of the most popular theories) she probably had help. Maybe she brought her office into a organization that had already been around for a long time, like Frollo’s organization. Or maybe Frollo’s organization seeks out young people who have had negative encounters with magic, so Wendy and then later Dorothy are good candidates.

That would be a neat plotline.

I love that story, Victor Hugo is (once you learn to cope with his tangential waffling) a brilliant writer. It always annoyed me that the Disney-fied version of the story has Esmerelda falling in love with Quasimodo and everyone living happily ever after. Pfft! In the books, she loves Phoebus, who only lusts for her; Frollo lusts for her and ends up having her killed so he can purge himself of his sin of lust; Quasimodo loves Esmerelda but she rejects him for the pretty Phoebus. And in the end, after the mob string up Esmerelda and hang her, (and Quasimodo has pushed Frollo off the parapets of Notre Dame in rage after he sees Frollo gloating as the mob takes Esmerelda) Quasimodo goes and lies down next to her corpse, in the mass pauper’s grave to die next to her.
It’s wholly tragic and no one has a redeeming feature. Unlike Les Miserables, there’s no happy endings for anyone – even Phoebus, who does at least walk away from this encounter, just goes on to a loveless marriage and life of sloth.

Don't grow up. It's a trap.
