@ hjbau AGREE about Rumpel’s plan
I’m not sure about the good fairy/evil fairy thing. I know some people are saying Malificent was an evil fairy, but in FTL when EQ went to visit she looked more like a witch than a fairy. I mean she could have made herself small when the chandelier wrapped her rather than be captured and held fast, couldn’t she, if she was a fairy?
I actually think that Maleficent is a witch in this version also. I think in the original story she was a fairy, but in the Disney movie she was a witch and she seems more like a witch in ONCE. She throws magic with a staff and she doesn’t have wings or anything.
It is really unclear how magic works in this world.
@ hjbau: According to wikipedia, Maleficent is an evil fairy godmother. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maleficent Perhaps the evil fairy dust Snow White got in ep. 3 Snow Falls was really from Maleficent. I could see Maleficent giving Snow White the evil fairy dust in order to prevent Regina from enacting the dark curse. Remember the power struggle between Regina and Maleficent in ep. 2 The Thing You Love Most? Maleficent said to Regina:
“Don’t do this, this curse. There are lines even we shouldn’t cross. All power comes with a price. Enacting it will take a terrible toll. It will leave an emptiness inside you — a void you will never be able to fill.”
"That’s how you know you’ve really got a home. When you leave it, there’s this feeling that you can’t shake. You just miss it." Neal Cassidy
I know that she is a fairy in some versions, but she is a witch in the disney version and she seemed to be a witch in ONCE and not a fairy. Fairies have wings and they have fairy dust and they wear these silly dresses. Maleficent does not do any of those things and she uses a staff to throw her magic and does not seem to have dust. I just don’t think she is a fairy in ONCE. I think Maleficent and Regina are both witches.
I think Rumpel wanting Ella’s baby may stem from a couple different sources. First, in the original story of Rumpelstiltskin, he asks the miller’s daughter for her firstborn child, but who knows what he intended to do with it. Stands to reason that whatever his plan was, he may have had a similar one for Ella’s child. Also, we know that Mr. Gold was the person who got Henry from the outside world to give to Regina, and that he presumably did that because he knew Emma was special. Maybe Ella’s child was special too, and he wanted to place it with someone in particular. Or, maybe he wanted to give it to someone powerful, who would later owe him a favor.
My other thought (and I didn’t actually think of this, I think I read it in a fanfic but I can’t remember which one), is that Rumpel asked for Belle because she was the most precious thing her father had. Maybe he approaches deals in two ways, either with a specific object in mind (like Snow White’s hair) or, if he doesn’t want anything specific, he just asks for the most precious thing the person has to offer.
