When Mr. Gold asked Cora whether she had any spells to restore memory, she replied she only knew what he’d taught her. However, I have a feeling that was her poker face. Cora seemed awfully powerful when she warded off the dark curse with that magical staff to protect a remanent of FTL. Also, she can shape-shift into other people and control an army of the undead! We’ve yet to see Rumpel do something on that magnitude. I don’t doubt Rumpel is mostly all-powerful, but I think Cora has a few tricks tucked up her sleeve that she doesn’t want to reveal to Rumple, her long-term teacher and rival.

Also there was no need for Cora to tell Rumple that she could restore memory. Because if there is one thing I’ve noticed about her; is she is a very selfish woman and only does things for her own benefit.
But I’m surprised that Rumple seemed to take her word for it and trust her so quickly. Because she is a very unstrustworthy person, and if anyone should know that it’s Rumple.January 21, 2013 at 12:40 pm #169372nonnieParticipantRumple gets others to use magic so they have to pay the price. I do think as Rumple back in the early FTL he might have used and practice all the magical tricks but as he advanced in his knowledge he did not have to resort as often to these methods. I do not think Rumple believes Cora (as evidence by the look on his face) but it suits him to let her think that he believes her. Have you ever known Rumple to deal honestly and open with anyone?
.
CORA uses magic all the time so she must be paying the price in someway… Maybe by the loss of her daughter’s love. We KNOW Cora has no heart… where it is hidden no one knows. Does Regina know Cora has no heart?

January 21, 2013 at 1:52 pm #169389RumplesGirlKeymasterI have no doubt she was lying. I think she wants Rumple out of town, finding Bae, not curing Belle and then having him stick around for awhile. She has all these plans and now that she and Regina are back together, I think having Rumple around is an obstacle, one that she could deal with by sending him away.

Agreed. Cora has an agenda to rule, which is why she probably made a truce with Rumple and sent him out of town searching for his son. I don’t trust that conniving snake for a moment. We’ve already seen evidence of her corrupting Regina in her daughter’s broken state. Cora will never change her tune.

The only person we’ve seen Rumple deal openly and honestly with is Belle, and only after several failed attempts. Even with Baelfire, Rumple lost his nerve and broke his deal. So, I was surprised when Mr. Gold asked Cora point blank if she had any spells to restore memory. I thought he’d at least try to broker a deal. Maybe he figures his priority is to find Bae and then deal with Belle, who seems healthy except for her lost FTL identity. But I agree that Mr. Gold’s facial expression suggested that he didn’t believe Cora when she said she only knew the spells he’d taught her.

Yes, I think Cora’s price for using magic was losing Regina. Now that Regina seems to be opening her heart to Cora again, I wonder what price Cora will pay now if she uses more magic. I have a foreboding sense that Cora might not make it to S3 (which would be fine by me).
Also, I theorized about this in another thread, but as evidenced by them sealing a deal with a kiss, I think Cora and Rumple have a tenuous romantic past. I have a feeling Cora keeps her heart inside of Rumple! Except for a magical knife that only he seems to know the location of, he is invincible and immortal. He’s the perfect place to hide her heart, IMO. For this theory to work, Cora would have had to have hidden her heart within him without Rumple’s knowledge (like while he was asleep), otherwise he’d have direct power over her.

That’s a terrifying thought!!! Wouldn’t Rumple know if he was holding Cora’s heart?

I was thinking about that just before actually, and it wouldn’t surprise me either.
With Lana tweeting the word “KILLER” to describe The Miller's Daughter, I'm wondering if she might have meant it literally. It was in the ep where we got Graham's back story that he died, so maybe they'll do it again?
January 21, 2013 at 4:51 pm #169418RumplesGirlKeymasterI think Cora has been an exceptional villain for S2. And only S2. After she’s gone (probably at the hand of Regina) it will be time for a new villain and conflict.
EDIT: perhaps the villain of S3 will be the outside world, beginning with Greg, forcing everyone to want to go back to FTL. And there they will have to face the Ogre’s and I’m sure there is some sneaky wizard/magician lurking somewhere in the forest.
Plus, we need to see the drama of Rumple/BF/Regina play out. There is so much to do there, especially with the BF and Rumple"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love" -
