Wow! What awesome costumes! I really admire cosplayers- some of them go all out. Those costumes put mine to shame. I really need to learn to sew. My mom gave me her old sewing machine when I moved out on my own, but I’ve barely touched it. She gave me a big book on sewing basics for Hanukkah last year when I expressed interest again, but I still haven’t done it. I do have a whole closet of costumes but they are mostly the party store and Disney store variety. I have a few cool pieces that my mom made for me years ago though. I’m going to go to the D23 expo this year and plan to wear my blue Belle dress.

Check out what I found on Etsy:

Isn’t that awesome? I wish I could justify the cost, but that is more than I spent on my wedding dress! Oh well…honestly, I don’t think I’m pretty enough to justify that dress anyway. Emilie de Ravin is simply gorgeous.

Here are some of my Disney costumes from over the years (these were taken mostly at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween party at WDW):

    Belle- blue dress

    Wendy

    Jane

Mary Poppins (with my husband as Burt)

Barbie from Toy Story 3 with hubby as Ken

    Alice

    Snow White

    Jasmine

Playing princess dress up with friends about 6 years ago (the costumes are all mine).

And just for fun- as Snow White for Halloween when I was 13

    Mary Poppins! Now I’m jealous.

What you as starting seamstress need are some good patterns. May I point you in the direction of Simplicityhttp://www.simplicity.com/c-264-historical.aspx. They have great range of historical patterns and with some cheap yellow satin and a few bits of lace you can make your own. Beware, satin is slippery so pin well before sewing.

Wow- color me impressed by all of your costumes! I dabble in cosplay a bit- after I finish my current projects I think I’m going to try some OUAT designs. I’m stoked!
