So I’m wondering if there is still some heart stealing going on in Storybrooke by both Regina and Mr. Gold. Regina can obviously still control people with the hearts she has in her vault. So far Dr. Whale appears to be the only doctor in town and after last night’s episode I think he might be one of the EQ’s servants and in on her heart fetish in Storybrooke. If he is the only doctor, he would be the only person in town who would REALLY know who has a heart and who doesn’t. As Graham said in The Heart is a Lonely Hunter the fact that someone can hear or feel another person’s heart beat could just be a part of the curse.
What if Gold knows that Regina still has her heart vault and know that she is still after people’s hearts and can control them once she gets their hearts? It appears that as long as someone’s heart is not destroyed (like Graham’s) the person is still alive even if their heart is removed. What if Gold is also removing people’s hearts and burying them in the woods so that Regina CAN’T remove them and control them. If he hides them from Regina and buries them the hearts would be protected and the person would live. He could free their hearts and they could start to remember their real identities like Graham did before she destroyed his heart.
So I’m wondering if Gold knocked David unconscious near the Troll Bridge where he was aimlessly wandered looking for Snow, removed his heart and buried it. Or the heart in the box might not be his. It might or might not be Kathryn’s. Since MM hires Gold to be her attorney, I'm guessing that at least the box was planted there by Gold and that the box came from FTL with Snow's fingerprints so that she would have to hire him as her attorney. Again, guessing Gold is the only attorney in Storybrooke? He knows what is going on and will be able to get the charges dropped or something.
It would explain Mr. Gold’s appearance in the woods with the shovel. It’s possible that he has been removing other people’s hearts and/or stealing hearts from the vault and hiding/burying them so that Regina can no longer control people with them. It’s possible that Regina may have already had Kathryn’s heart in her vault and Gold may have already stolen it and freed it which caused her to start thinking for herself and deviate from her Storybrooke life and start to follow a storyline more similar to her FTL character. If Gold had stolen Kathryn heart from Regina vault and she didn’t know it, it would explain why Regina was so surprised when Kathryn suddenly started thinking for herself and decided she didn’t really love David, was telling David and MM they should be together, wanted to find a similar kind of love for herself, and was going to leave Storybrooke. Regina would have been confused. If Kathryn’s heart was in her vault she shouldn’t have been able to think for herself like that.

I think that if he is trying to protect people then that is not the way to go about it. Also i don’t think the queen has any control over the people whose hearts she takes. I think the control exists in the threat towards them. Like i think that the huntsman could have chosen to disobey the queen after she took his heart, but then she would have just killed him like she later killed him because he said he was done with her.
I am not sure if i think it makes sense that Gold would create evidence against Mary just so that he could defend her in court and then blame Regina for the fake evidence. If he is going to go to the trouble he should have just manufacture evidence against Regina directly.

Well, he has done some crazy things to get what he wants. Remember when he started a fire so Emma could will the election by saving Regina from it?
March 13, 2012 at 9:43 pm #138798hjbauParticipantI guess it is possible. The whole fire thing seemed more straightforward then this. And Rumpel was able to stay in the background in that one. No one but Emma and Gold know that Gold set the fire so that people would think Emma stood against him, but if Gold were to directly blame Regina in court for making up evidence that seems like he would be directly standing against Regina which he hasn’t done so far. Gold has even worked with Regina selling her the land. I don’t know. I just don’t see Gold directly confronting Regina yet.

But I really think it is evident that neither he nor Regina can do magic like they could in FTL. I think they can only use magical artifacts they have, such as Regina with Graham’s heart. I think that is why Gold is collecting artifacts, because they have power, and he doesn’t. I think if either he or Regina could do magic to any appreciable level, we’d have seen some indication by now.
Even so, I don’t think this is something Gold would do. He works in elaborate schemes and debt to control people, to make people think they are doing what they want, when they are really doing what he needs. Regina is the one who uses force and more direct forms of blackmail, extortion, and threats. If Gold were stealing them, it would be just to prevent Regina using them, and that doesn’t work as a narrative, in my opinion.
March 14, 2012 at 4:26 am #138818ciela_crowParticipantMr.Gold could be stealing the hearts from Regina’s vault for his own purposes. Being able to kill anybody he wanted in Storybrooke (well atleast the people without hearts), without a single trace left seems like something he would desire. Plus, Regina would be super mad when she found out.
March 14, 2012 at 11:29 am #138822hjbauParticipantIt is possible that Regina can do magic because she did the curse and Gold can’t. There have been a lot of things that Regina has done that make me think that maybe she can do magic, but there has been nothing with Rumpel. Who knows though. I think i like the idea of Emma seeing something magical happen and that is how she believes.
March 14, 2012 at 9:35 pm #138859ciela_crowParticipantIf Regina could use magic in storybrooke, then surely she would have killed Emma by now. I think her magic has limitations in Storybrooke. Remember in the episode where Emma and Sidney were running against eachother for sheriff, and Mr.Gold made that big explosion? Regina freaked out because she thought Emma was going to leave her. Or maybe it was a different episode. I can’t remember.
I read somewhere that one of the actors or writers said that the curse could be stronger then Regina. Thats what could be keeping her from using magic and not just magical items.
March 15, 2012 at 3:13 am #138867hjbauParticipantI don’t know that because Regina hasn’t killed Emma proves that she doesn’t have magic. There are still guns in the real world and she hasn’t shot her either. And i think she could get away with it. You could be right in that Regina might not be able to use magic like disapparating or throwing fire balls, but is still able to do things like use the mirrors. I don’t know.
Maybe if the curse is partially broken and becomes less powerful then they might get some of their power back.
