I still see an issue with the favor just because i don’t see how Rumpel really forces Emma to do anything. I guess there is magic back so there can be consequences again to breaking the duel, but it just seems bizarre. I do agree that while the deal may have to do with Bae, i would imagine it is going to be more complicated then go find him. And they can’t have Emma out of the show for awhile. That wouldn’t work, so i think i like the idea that the father just comes to town, Bae or not.
If Emma were to go out and look for Bae, I doubt the writers would have it be off camera. They would show it. So yes, I could see Emma finding Bae. However, I don’t think she’ll have to actively look for him because he’s probably Henry’s father.

Since the majority of his deals are sacrificial in nature, and the unofficial job of a hero is to suffer, I can’t get over that the favor is going to be a lot harder than tracking a guy and bringing him to Maine (even if he does turn out being your ex/father of child).
If she does end up going off to search for Baelfire (with or without Rumple), I don’t think Emma would be off camera for a long period of time. Can’t they film an epic roadtrip across America (or world)? Quests: the other unofficial duty of the suffering hero.July 5, 2012 at 10:59 pm #149549a_desperate_soulParticipantMeh. I could easily see Emma fulfilling the deal between her and Mr. Gold. He could simply trick her into it. Or he could set up a situation in which he helps her and then she’ll be guilted into helping him. You know, the usual tricks. 😉

It doesn’t seem to me that any of the things that Rumpel asked of people were things they actually wanted to do but they needed his help more.
And the one time he made a deal without telling the person what they had to give on the other side was the deal that was the precursor to Emma’s deal where he asked for Ella’s baby. Which Ella did not want to give up for anything. So i think this open ended favor is going to be something that Emma does not want to do.

The theme of the show is that true love is the most powerful magic in the world. It got me thinking in OUaT that true love begets true love. I’ll explain…
Snow’s father loved her mother deeply. We’ve even seen him talk about it in front of Regina. So Snow is a product of true love. Then there is Charming. His mother tells of how she dearly loved his father and that true love will follow the ring she gave him, just like it did for her. Next in line is Emma, who we know is the product of Snow’s and Charming’s love for each other, and hence why she’s the savior curtesy of Rumple’s curse.
So that leaves Henry. The last in a long line of true love. We know that Emma truly loves Henry, but unlike the others, he’s not the product of true love. He’s the result of some messed up, accidental, dysfunctional relationship. She was a teenager, he wasn’t told she was pregnant, then she got arrested. Not the outcome of true love. So what’s different with Henry? Why did the cycle stop with his conception?
Or will his parents ultimately be each other’s romantic true loves. The show preaches it and shoves it down our throats, so why for the main character does she not have what everyone around her, even Rumple in his wacked out way, has or had? Do you think they’ll eventually bring back Henry’s father, whoever he is, and redeem him in her eyes?
Just bumping this up for, Josephine because I saw she brought it up today at FanForums. (I’m stalking her and MRJ. 😉 )

I do think Neal is Bae AND Emma’s true love. I don’t care how many people harp on it that it’s too coincidental and sloppy writing, but it’s true. The whole theme of the show is love and redemption. I just see this happening.
Okay, sadly I relate everything back to Harry Potter now, but everyone’s read it and it’s easy to do. But it’s like with Ron and Hermione. Half of fandom thought Ron didn’t deserve her. He wasn’t as brave as Harry or as smart as Hermione. He was rude to her and made cracks about her all the time. But she wasn’t an angel, either. She harped on him and acted like his mother a lot of the time. But there was something there. A spark that she just didn’t have with Harry. No matter how much Harry might have been a better partner when you list the facts out, or how much it would have been a much healthier relationship than Ron/Hermione, it just didn’t happen. For some reason, they loved each other…before they even realized it. I feel the same way with Bae being Neal, Henry’s father and Emma’s true love. I might be all too much of a coincidence, but so what! Not everything has to be because someone deserves something or earns it. I don’t see it as a coincidence and sloppy writing, but tight plotting and storytelling. The curse is enclosing everyone in this tight knit circle, so naturally everyone is connected.
So I do think Henry is the product of true love and Swanfire is endgame. Do I think it will happen anytime soon? Not on your life. But I think it will eventually a few seasons away happen.
Keeper of Rumplestiltskin's and Neal's spears and war paint and crystal ball.
November 5, 2012 at 9:16 pm #159687lilredParticipantTotally agree – ‘Neal’/Emma is true love. They’re both broken but both were/are willing to do anything for the other – and becoming better people because of each other, IMHO. Yeah, they stole together but I feel they had a balance both probably hadn’t had their entire lives when they meet.
Before last night, I’d say we’d have to wait awhile to see them back in action – not so sure anymore. ‘Neal’ doesn’t really need redemption in the audiences eyes – just Emma’s. And I can’t see either of them dating or playing hard to get if they were within miles of each other – not even Emma. Shocking but true. I can see August getting the full force of both resentment.
The main issue is going to be Emma finding out what happened and think he put the curse before her, IMHO.
